The Taysom Hill deal was for 21 million dollars! (1 Viewer)

Ironically, Teddy and TH are in similar situations. They both got their money but neither situations screams long term commitment. The Saints could easily move to Winston and the Panthers could just as easily draft a QB high in the next couple years. Although the money and situation say Teddy is the better QB.

The deal was never expected to be longer than 2-3 years from what I heard because the Saints want to give themselves the opportunity to get out from underneath Hill if things go wrong. The other thing is this deal, as it is set up, is really a one-year deal.

As it is set up, it is $16 million guaranteed.

Go check Taysoms completion % in preseason and get back to me. College doesnt mean much considering he was injured all the time and he was a running QB.

Did you really just try to make the point that college stats don't matter (despite college completion pecentage being the stat most correlated to pro success) and then cite Taysom's preseason stats?

Are we reading the tea leaves correctly?

Most of us assumed that Taysom received no offer sheets and that he would be forced to sign his tender for $4.641 million. A lot of us were saying that was about what he is worth and some even thought that was too much. Those that said he was worth a lot more were roundly laughed at.

Instead he signs a two year extension for $22 with incentives. Think about that. They could have had him for $4.641 million this year. So one way to view this is that the saints just offered Taysom $17 million for 2021.

Maybe just maybe he had teams willing to sign an offer sheet and a combination of wanting to be Drew's heir and the Saints desire to pay bigger dollars to keep him is why no offer was signed. Maybe it was a conscious decision to pass on potential offers.

I'm just thinking , if there really was zero league interest in Taysom and the Saint only think of him as a gimmick play man, why would the Saints throw $17+ million at him for one more year?

There has to be more that we don't know about this situation.

Offer sheets are made public, we would have known.

Nobody tried to sign him.

In his media availability after signing the contract, Hill said that he basically only talked to the Saints. His agent may have had some conversations while talking to other teams about other players he represented, but that the 1st round tender made it hard for other teams to go after him. So, not only were there no offer sheets, apparently nobody was seriously discussing giving up a 1st round pick.

Also, he said that early on both he and the Saints agreed that a 2 year deal was best for both sides. So all this talk that the Saints really wanted a 3 year deal and he refused and would only take 2 are bullshirt.

I think that's why they did the 1st round tender. A team rich in picks my have been willing to give up a 2nd. 2 years is the retirement window, for now.

That is from someone close to Taysom.

According to Taysom Hill, both he and the team agreed that a 2 year deal was best for both sides very early on. As in two or three months ago when they started talking. So, either that information is inaccurate or Taysom Hill is lying. And, I don't think Taysom Hill is lying.

Good info - thanks.
