This is why I feel like we have to go CB in the 1st round (1 Viewer)

why is it ppl think coming from a small school is a handicap at the NFL level? Colston came from a small school, while Devery Henderson came from a big time SEC school. why is it the small school guy is leaps and bounds better than the big school guy?

WORK ETHIC thats what matters

Because players at smaller schools haven't been tested consistently against the highest talent in college football?

You're right in a sense, it's been proven that players can rise above the small school status if they are truly talented. However,it doesn't matter who the player is, they are certainly at a disadvantage for having played against inferior college competition. I don't see how that can be disputed.

Players like Colston, Mathis, Jerry Rice, Walter Payton, etc....those are the exceptions rather than the rule.

we'll just have to agree to disagree that DRC is the next coming of Deon Sanders.

I said he compares to Deon, not that he would be another Sanders. What I simply mean is that he has great potential like Deon did coming out. There is no such thing as a sure thing in the draft. You just have to go with potential.

The thing is I don't recall anyone considering Sanders to be a "project" when he came out.

As much as we need a CB, I would rather take more of a certainty with BPA at the 10 spot.

I owuldn't be suprised to see us go CB, CB in round 1 and 2 and I also wouldn't be suprised if we didn't go CB until the 3rd or 4th round. This staff has shown over and over again that they will pick based on BPA......the don't care, to an extent, what position they play.

I still think it's Ellis, Rivers or Clady at10.

I don't particularly want a corner at #10, but if we do draft one there I hope it's Jenkins.

Rouster, I am a little concerned about Mike Jenkins. I had a conversation with Mike Detillier not long ago and he told me that Jenkins is kind of a bang or bust player. He told me that because of his character, Jenkins needs a coach who will be able to push the right buttons on him in order to get the best out of him.

On McKelvin or DRC, Detillier told me that he prefers McKelvin because of his return abilities, with him you get 2 players with the price of one. On covering skills, both McKelvin and DRC are rated almost even, but if you add the return skills then McKelvin is the player to take.

Mike's ranking of corners at the time was:
1) McKelvin
2) DRC
3) Jenkins
4) Flowers
5) Reggie Smith

Finally, and this is my judgement, if there is a player that can be drafted in the second and have the impact of Rashen Mathis, I think it is Flowers.

When you pick in the top 10 I think its foolish to fixate on a position. Just write down the 10 best prospects in order and take the top guy on the list when its your pick. Position is irrelevant for this type of pick.

There is no telling what can happen with picks 1-9. Gholston, Ellis, Dorsey, McK, and DRC could all be off the board. Would you really pass on Chris Long or Jake Long if they fell to us just because we dont need them persee?

Honestly at this point I would take Darren McFadden over Mike Jenkins regardless of Duece and Bushes ability to start and perfrorm.

My Top 10
-----------------
1. Ellis
2. Gholston
3. Dorsey
4. Chris Long
5. DRC
6. McKelvin
7. Jake Long
8. Keith Rivers
9. McFadden
10. Dan Connor

(If Clady and/or Matt Ryan go before we pick then I think we will get more then our money's worth taking BPA).

Scott, did you know that Deon has been training with DRC and gives him very high marks? Did you also know that Antonio Cromartie made the comparison also and said that he is the same type of player that he is? All the draft guru's are saying that DRC has the most potential of all the CB prospects in this draft and that is upside is tremendous. He was clearly the most fluid CB at the combine. He also did more than hold his own at the Senior bowl against top flight prospects. He had a pick in every practice but one, and had a pick in the game itself. He also has an all time (in college) completions percentage against him of a measely 34% which is amazing. You can't argue with those numbers. And yes, Deon Sanders. Great speed and size like Deon, and makes plays all over the field.

Hopefully Deon isnt teaching him how to tackle, unless your talking about Deon Grant who is considerably better at tackling then Deon Sanders ever was.

I wonder why Cromartie didn't attend a bigger named school like his cousin?

Didn't play football until his senior season of High School. Team went 5-5 that year, so he wasn't on the radar of any scouts. His dad knew the coach at Tennessee State and got DRC in that way.

Scott, I disagree. I feel like DRC has a real chance to become a starter. If not by game one, then by some point in the season. The guy is too fluid and makes too many plays not to play. He could start off by getting his feet wet as the nickle, then move into the starting lineup as he gets more comfortable.

I really feel that DRC is gonna be a future pro-bowler. He reminds me so much of Deon when he came out. Add in that he can also return kicks (just like Deon) and you have a winner.

Who's Deon? Deon Rheubottom from Delaware State? Is he as good as Dathan Brown?

I don't think any of the CBs are worth the 10th pick, so if we get stuck there, I wouldn't be surprised if we go offense. Offensive players will probably slip for the defensive mindedness this year. I hate that it will happen, but it might...

If we do go CB in the first round I think that Mike Jenkins is the best balance of talent and risk. DRC is quite risky, but also the highest talent. McKelvin to me has the least upside because of his stone hands (unless he can fix that). Jenkins seems to have the best balance of talent and tape. (ie experience or less risk)

I hope we get either a great DT or trade back and take Mike Jenkins in the late first round. Or if we go really back, take Trevor Laws in the first and a CB in the second.

To imply that DRC is the next Dion Sanders is quite a statement. I don't think DRC has earned that. Did you know that Dion ran a 4.2? I don't think that DRC is even CLOSE to that kind of talent. DRC probably has the most talent of all the CBs in the draft this year, but he also has some of the least tape and experience against quality opponents of any of the 1st or 2nd round CBs.

He may well turn out to be a great CB, but to imply he is the next Dion is well... a reach. :)

I said he reminds me of Deon, not that he would be the next Deon. He has the potential to be a lock down CB. Speed, hands, fluid motion, great hips, back pedal. He has it all. His only problem is that he didn't go against top flight talent at Tenn. St.
