Saw that in maybe the last single screen theater in NYC
Matinee show so not too many in attendance, but our collective reaction to the hobbling scene is something I’ll always remember

Same same.. well, not the NYC part, but i did see Misery in the theater at Thanksgiving break, first semester of college.. other films i saw in the theater right around that time include the excellent Bugsy (still a favorite of mine) and the remake of Cape Fear.. as for Misery , i thought it was very very good- and yet i never felt the need to rewatch it in the thirty years since .

Another one i saw in the theater and, at the risk of incurring a slow death by superlative to Guido- I think the original Naked Gun might be the best comedy ever made, along with Airplane………. Other comedy favorites of mine are Groundhog Day, and the original Bill & Ted, just for context .

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley

Coming your way Summer 2024.
Everythings beter with Bacon, right?
Kevin Bacon as Captain Grant, a police captain in the Beverly Hills Police Department.
Man let me tell ya I will be at the theater for this but there is no way this can live up to my expectations. I am going to be disappointed. Eddie Murphy was a god to me as a kid. There was no one funnier walking the planet as far as I am concerned.

And can anyone explain what happened to him? It was like someone turned off the switch when he did Harlem Nights in 1989 and he completely forgot how to be funny on camera. Hasn't been in a live action film since then where he was funny. Donkey in Shrek was a breath of fresh air, but then that turned stale very fast, too. I can't count that against him, though, he wasn't writing the scripts of those sequels.

it almost feels like Eddie created a whole genre (cop dramedy?) by sheer force of talent
I'm thinking Starsky & Hutch (the series) might have been a a precursor, but Beverly Hills Cop was certainly more 'real' and gritty
Did you know this role was originally given to Stallone, who tried to change it into more action than comendy? So after they had creative difference, Stallone went on to makehis version of the movie. Yall probaably herd of it... Its called Cobra.
