Triplett says Saints Interest in Chris "Beanie" Wells is "Bona Fide" (1 Viewer)

Well... assuming Sharper stays healthy I can't think of another FS that's on our entire roster... can you? And I don't mean a converted CB.

Which is why I said depth.

Peirson Preliou is another S.

im going to be unhappy if we take Wells at 14. at least i will be at jazz fest so it wont ruin my day though.

WOW, FS is a hole? You must think Sharper is washed up. Otherwise, we have FS depth concerns, but no way should it be labeled a hole.

well Sharper is getting old and coming off the least productive season of his career (zero sacks, one interception in 16 starts). I think its safe to say he is not the player he once was. Even if he can start for us this season, odds are he wont be around much longer than that. Plus there is nobody on the depth chart behind him at FS. so yes, i think it is safe to say that FS is a hole. If anything on this team can be considered a hole, it would have to be the free safety position.

I'd be upset if we got Wells... we have 2 holes on defense (OLB and FS), and RB is not a need.

Yes we may need to draft one, but not at 14.

If you listen to truck man or realchrism, OLB is not a need at all. The Saints are happy with who they have right now. And with Matthews and Cushing possibly testing positive for steroids, I think you can lower that possibility of drafting an OLB in the 1st round from almost none to less than none.

And FS has been addressed with the Darren Sharper signing. He's just a stopgap but yeah if worst comes to worst and Jenkins isn't on the board, we have the position covered. I think the front office did a great job of covering all of their bases in FA. The Beanie thing is becoming more and more likely every day, and it would be a good pickup for us, when you consider everything I just talked about above.

Why are people (not you) saying that we should trade down as if it will definitely happen? It's not something that we can control so why even get your hopes up about it?? Some team would have to want to trade up into our crappy value spot, and with this Cutler trade going down I think that likelyhood just plummeted. And like someone else mentioned, if we do want to trade out of the spot that bad, we will likely end up getting hosed in the trade. Better to stay in the spot and live with Beanie Wells (if Jenkins isn't there).

OLB isn't a need ... I looked in my crystal ball and saw Dan Morgan healthy 19 out of 19 games in 2009.

If we got Wells, who will be trade bait - PT or Reggie? I can't see any of these being a 3rd string back. We will have Bell, PT, RB, Hamilton and Wells.

I am more curious about the TE postion. We have 6 on the roster. Who stays and who goes?

If Malcom Jenkins is off the board at 14 and the Saints can't trade down, then I would be very content with Beanie.......provided we address defense with both 4th round picks.

Giants proved that 3 backs can work. A team can never have enough good backs. And they are all different anyway. Mike Bell would be the odd man out this year. Hamilton is on the practice squad.

Or our 7th round pick.

But we are not the Giants. SP loves to pass the ball. That would be a lot of money in 3 backs with one or two of them just sitting on the bench. I just wish they would make the switch and make Reggie a WR.

GoldRush we finally agree on something :hihi:. I have never liked the thought of picking Wells for numerous reasons: injury concerns, our OLine cannot run block, Payton does not like to run the ball enough to have 3 quality backs, PT will not get the chance he deserves, OSU running back history is not good outside of E. George, Etc. (I could go on for a while w/this list). But now that the OLB having major question marks about them, Jenkins may not be there and I don't like the DE prospect even more than Wells, I think Wells is the way to go/best value. If Raji does not fall that far down (he won't) and Jenkins is not on the board, I would be OK with Wells. Trading down is not going to be an option Sanchez was the key to that and with the Cutler trade he is gone on later than 12. The only other route is OL if they drop, maybe get an insurance policy for J. Brown? I think we could lose him next year so why not get his replacement now if possible? I must admit that the more the draft develops the better the Wells pick is looking. Jenkins 1st, Raji's a dream, OL possible but Wells is closing in IMO.
