I mean this in all due respect. It's a good story, and I see what you're getting at, but it's still not a good comparison. Ukraine is fighting for their survival, and pretty much everyone who knows and understands the Ukraine-Russia conflict realizes that without the help of the West, they will lose to Russia.Every time I see something about Ukraine is tired or weary with the West, I’m reminded of a story. I have to say I fully support and understand how Ukraine must feel.
That being said, here’s the story.
Around 1981 or 82 my stepdad decided to get out of the horse business. These were purebred horses and were worth a lot of money in early 80s dollars. Instead of selling them off he donated them to a boy’s home somewhere here in Mississippi. He had no illusions about the organization selling those horses for cash. Which they did. A few months later they sent him a letter thanking him for his donation. Then in bold, “but it’s not enough!” He never donated again.
That seems to be what Ukraine is flirting with.
I think we all understand also that we have never given Ukraine full autonomy to use the weapons they receive as they see fit. It's always some excuse like we don't want to goad Poots into using nukes, or provoke a wider war or start WW3.
The thing is, it's clear Ukraine is capable of defending themselves if we're fully supportive of the effort. No more half-measures. Poots and Russia have shown themselves to be paper Tigers. Push them out of Ukraine and they'll fold like a cheap suit.
