Underhill thinks Carr will be Saints starter [mod edit: Moore-Carr meeting went well; Saints plan is to keep Carr in 2025 & figure out contract] (59 Viewers)

They seem pretty torn on Loomis decision to keep pushing the cap.

Triplett and Underhill both took a lot of time and words to basically keep circling around "I understand it, but it's not what I would like to see them do." They seem stuck in the ambivalence of not loving or hating it.

It was interesting to me that Triplett said that Moore seems to genuinely want to roll with Carr.

Yeah it’s wild ain’t it? It’s almost as if yet another NFL coach has watched extensive film to form actual educated judgments of the player and concluded he’s worth committing to as a starting QB, even if only short term.

I will just never see what makes this player so bad in some people’s eyes. He’s by no way perfect or elite, but he’s also not the absolute worst QB on the planet the way people talk about him. I’d even say he’s better than average. I’m confident every time he drops back.

I think there are multiple factors in play. I think the biggest one is guilt by association with Allen. I think some people can't see Carr as anything but an extension of Allen. There's also a lot of personality bias in play. Carr has a bit of an Oddball (intentional capitalization) personality type which some see as disingenuous and phony. Then they got all into those negative waves about him feeding his children at Chipotle when he and his family first got into town.

I mean it's pretty obvious if you watch the games. Derek is the manifestation of a C+ QB. Mediocrity is so much more painful than trying to get better and sucking. I don't think anyone hates him, they just hate the product.

I don't think anyone's hating on Kellen for this, but it's such a classic Loomis move. I'd much rather trust my own eyes and thoughts than someone who I don't know who has consistently made poor decisions for the past 7ish years.

No, the Saints didn't ask Moore for his opinion. Hiring Moore was just a PR stunt. They keep him locked up in secret closet in the team's building. They only let him out to make PR appearances, like interviews.

They'll let him walk the sidelines during the games with a play sheet and headset while pretending to be running things, but his headset will just be a prop and no one will actually be listening to anything he says. His hiring is all for show. Moore's just a powerless figurehead.
Thank you for the sarcasm. I couldn't see the presser so I actually had a valid question. Dink.

I didn't see the presser either, but I did read the entirety of the tweet that read:

"Mickey Loomis said they feel like they got a QB they can win with, and Kellen Moore said the team feels fortunate to have Carr. Moore and Carr have met. Sounds like it went well.

That makes it clear that Moore was part of the decision and the announcement. I assumed you had read the entire tweet as well, so it struck me as odd that you would ask, "did our new coach okay this decision? Was he asked?"

Thank you for your sarcastic thanks for my sarcasm. I sincerely mean that. Dunk.

The math is simple.

Carr is the best option the Saints will have in 2025 at QB.

They can't afford a better one in FA. There isn't one better in the draft. There isn't one better on the team.

Fans don't want to hear that but that is the situation Loomis put us in with big contracts to Carr, Jordan, Hill, Ramcheck, Matthieu, Latimore...all older players with no future.

Taysom Hill contract was highway robbery and I think he had some damning evidence on Payton and Loomis lol cause wtf was that about?

Doesn't seem like they're all that torn. Neither of them think it's the right way to go but have to accept it as beat reporters that it's the way the team is going. The ending where they were comparing to other teams was most relevant to me and I think it's where fans have philosophical differences.

Do you want to be the Steelers and make the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years just to get bounced in the wildcard game every time? Or do you want to be the Commanders, get that top QB and make the NFC Championship game and feel like the next year could be the year? After quite a few years of being not even as good as the Steelers, I'm ready to try the Commanders route. I'm ready to make Rattler our Sam Howell and if he fails like Howell did you might get a Jayden Daniels.

The thing is that I don't think the Commanders did that on purpose. They were just that bad.
