UnitedHealth CEO shot (18 Viewers)

I've read "horror stories" about places that have free health care.
but in none of those stories mention what would happen if they were in the USA . no health care system will be perfect, but the one we have here is bottom of the barrel.
Yes but if the US goes single payer then what happens to all the lobbyists? Where will all that bribe money go?

The US system is designed in essence and in fact to extract as much money as possible from its customers and deliver as little as possible by way of functional outcomes. It's the American way.

Compare this reaction to when Betty White passed.
Even Jerry Springer got a better reception when he passed.
Those two deserve a better reaction, as they added more to the quality of life in this country than the dead CEO

It’s amazing when you remove hospital profits, exhorbitant physician salaries, provide at-cost medications, and have no malpractice insurance, etc. When all that excess cost is removed from the public health system, the government can provide these free health care services at a reasonable tax cost.
You can elect to purchase private medical insurance if you want, although the level of care is not significantly better than the public system. Like I said, I’m a convert!

honestly, we are too far gone to even fantom the idea of moving to something like that. it's like with solving the problem of guns. we are past the point of no return. there is zero chance of it happening.
just look at the airline attempt of ACA. i know quite a few people who benefited from it while Obama was in office, but blasted it like it was the devil. my sister in law was out of work for over 6 months then and was able to afford insurance through it. but my father in law always talked negative about it. but yet, he would have been more upset if he had to pay for meet medication she needed.

so many people are so gung ho USA! USA!. they are blinded to believe we are the best country in the world. but they have never been anywhere else. they were just born here and know nothing else.
how do you know your mom's gumbo is the best when it's the only gumbo you've ever eaten?

it's not easy to pick up and go somewhere else. it's hard. to leave family and friends..
but if i had the opportunity, i would move to Canada or somewhere like that in a heat beat..

character matters. when your character puts you beneath Jerry Springer, that says a lot about what people think of you.
i never heard of the guy before this, but there aren't many billionaires who are looked at in a good light. not many who care about whos lives they ruin to get another billion.
Maybe I'm off my mark but I think there's a big difference between billionaires like this dead UHC CEO and billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Richard Bronson, or Bill Gates. I don't think Bezos, Gates or Bronson are indirectly responsible or culpable for the deaths of tens of thousands of people due to canceling medical insurance premiums or coverages for sick Americans.

Elon Musk might be some annoying, wannabe crypto-fascist but even at his worst, he isn't indirectly responsible for 5% of the same amount of deaths as Brian Thompson is indirectly responsible for.

You're assuming that there must be so many people in this country who haven't visited other countries and experienced other cultures, societies and that's an unfair generalization. This isn't the early 20th century where tourism was confined to the wealthy, privileged and affluent visited other countries. How many millions of Americans actually visit other countries on a yearly basis? How many hundreds of thousands of Americans do you think will be visiting other countries in Latin America, Canada, or Europe over the next month over the Christmas holidays? It's very ignorant and misleading to actually argue most Americans haven't traveled or visited other countries and been exposed to other cultures, societies to some extent or another.

The more complex truth is that some Americans compartmentalize what they see, experience and interact with when they visit other countries, regions, or continents and the people they meet but they visit their as tourists, and there viewed as such. They don't live there, at the end of the day, they still have to return home to where they live because like you said, it's hard and often very expensive to pick up and relocate to some city like Toronto or Montreal unless you have some nice job you're being relocated to waiting for you.

Well, as it relates to guns, there's the Second Amendment and while some want to implement strict gun-control legislation, there are those on the left that would prefer EU-styled gun control that would arguably violate the Second Amendment. A few of them would likely prefer to eliminate the Second Amendment or conveniently argue it doesn't apply to private ownership. I'm sure most common sense gun-control Democrats aren't out "to take away our guns" but their are some idiots who just can't keep their mouths shut who make statements that suggest "Yes, we would like to take away your guns and we dare you to try and stop us if it ever happens". Their the NRA's best, most reliable allies, ironically.

rhetorically I think the people chanting "USA USA" are not the world travelers you describe - maybe the go on a cruise which ventures into international waters, but...

On the other hand, if you mean "world travellers", then yeah sure that is a lot more specific than just saying most Americans have traveled to some countries and that's it. BigDaddy just whole sale said these types never been anywhere and that falls part as a ethical/moral absolute argument. And again, Guido, humans have an remarkable ability to compartmentalize what they see, hear, meet and interact with in these experiences they have while traveling to other countries. We would like to believe that they would broaden and widen their perspectives as global, interconnected citizens but sometimes they just travel because they like to and the packages are relatively cheap and inexpensive and a few selectively pick and choose what they decide to absorb.

Being a " world traveler" isn't the same thing as some or most Americans visiting 4-5, or maybe 8-9 countries and some wanting to label it as they haven't been anywhere.

what he said was -- so many people are so gung ho USA! USA!. -
it could be like saying 'so many people drive jacked up trucks with stupid flags on them'
it doesn't have to be that many percentage-wise for me to be annoyed about stupid things on stupid trucks

I see stupid sheet written on cars and over-sized Ford F-150 trucks all the time, Guido and occasionally I see messages I disagree with but I try not to let it bother me. It's a waste of valuable energy and you and BigDaddy are both good, hard-working guys who mean well and want the best for people and your communities. I like and respect the both of you even if we don't always agree on everything.

Don't let that ignorant sheet bother you, Guido. Don't allow the opinions of small-minded, bitter people affect you or Daddy.
