Unusual criticism from NOF and Underhill (2 Viewers)

I can't believe that the Saints are the worst franchise to come in to coach. I remember, after Katrina, that we did not even know if the Saints would stay in New Orleans. The City was still recovering, Super Dome was still in tatters, and the team was in disarray. Yet, we found a coach, found a QB/leader, and got lucky with drafting, all of which took us to the NFC Championship that year. I understand that we have cap issues and aging players, but these are things we can overcome with the right GM coach. Maybe Loomis' time is up., and we need a better, younger GM. We need to start drafting better and play the players we drafted. I really think we should look to the Eagles and how they draft. This is a difficult time, but remember this: we're not as bad as the Falcons!

Not to be an apologist but is it not within the realm of possibility that Joe Brady didn’t crack the top 5 in the first round of interviews, and the Saints let him know they weren’t pursuing a second interview? And during that conversation they suggested that he pull himself from the search publicly to insure his value as a potential coaching candidate doesn’t take a hit via rejection? Is it not a better look to withdrawal from consideration to focus on the mission at hand vs sorry didn’t make the cut? If the Saints aren’t overly concerned about their outward media appearance, and are more concerned about doing the right thing by those they deal with on a personal level, this seems like a plausible if not probable scenario.
This could be true if we end up with Mike McCarthy

I read the article, I disagree w/ it but Nick is susceptible to emotional turmoil and will inherently give those types of takes from time to time.

We are at the mercy of the time it takes to hire someone, until we do, we have to accept that these conversations and thoughts will pervade the media.

This comes w/ the territory of losing

I'm a big supporter of Nick and I think he has a point that the situation looks bad for the team, but I also think his article is a bit of an overreaction when Moore, McCarthy, and even Kafka and Weaver are still on the board. It doesn't really matter what the rest of the NFL thinks of our roster or if Brady turned us down because he didn't like the roster or he knew he wasn't getting the job because all that really matters is will the next HC turn things around and start winning. The rest is just noise and fodder for talk shows, blogs, and stories.

And Nick has even admitted that McCarthy really might be the best choice and that he keeps forgetting that Moore is a serious candidate, but he would just rather swing for the fences with Brady. So I don't see how ending up with Moore or McCarthy should result in this level of reaction. But, as you said, Nick is susceptible to emotion like the rest of us and some part of me wonders if some of this is him getting tired of getting yelled at for being too positive or realizing that negativity sells in a time when there aren't a lot of positives.

Yep...these are my top 2 choices, so I am happy with whichever direction they choose. Hope we get this thing wrapped up this week. Still think the organization will lean McCarthy, the safer choice, but I guess we shall see.

I wonder if the coach they select is an indicator of what we do at QB. MM would indicate we roll with Carr. Moore indicates we go another direction.

McCarthy has even had a first interview.

Its kinda crazy that the guy who wasn't even expected to be on the Market is pretty much your last hail mary this cycle unless Kellen Moore blows them away if he sticks with interviewing.
It is not. The Saints were still scheduling interviews when McCarthy became available 2 weeks ago. It very well could be that once MM became available, the decision was made MM was the preferred candidate.

Watching Moore passing game with Eagle's gives my no confidence in his offense. He must be a master motivator, leader of men. I hope so! Who Dat

You have to take into account that he is working with Hurts who is not a good passer and it's a team with Saquon Barkley running for over 2,000 yards. It would be pretty dumb to let Hurts throw the ball a lot when you have Barkley running the ball like that.

I don't honestly know much about Moore other than that he was see as a rising star when he was in Dallas and then took the fall when Jerry got madd and the Saints did interview him for HC in the last cycle when they picked DA. Things did not go well for Moore with the chargers, but he has done a nice job in Philly with a up and down QB in Hurts. He has done a lot with Hurts while others, including Brady and Kingsbury have had much better QBs to work with. Maybe Moore is the guy to work with Rattler and make him better or maybe he's the guy to develop a young college QB that is a better runner than he is a thrower like Hurts?

Moore would not have been my choice, but I do see some reasons why he might be a good choice, but you are right that it will come down to if he can lead the team and run an organized program.

Or the whole thing was orchestrated this entire time since early January for MM to maneuver his way back down here. I wish I could find the article but there was a story in early January where a source was indicating that the Saints and McCarthy were in play and that MM was trying to backdoor his way down here.

Hiring Moore may very well increase the odds that we draft Jeanty (Boise St. connection, Moore's recent success with Barkley).

His passing game in Philly was fifth in the NFL in passer rating. Because of their overpowering run game, the Eagles were last in passing attempts in the league ... but when they throw, they're efficient.
