Unusual criticism from NOF and Underhill (7 Viewers)

Its kinda crazy that the guy who wasn't even expected to be on the Market is pretty much your last hail mary this cycle unless Kellen Moore blows them away if he sticks with interviewing.

Most were shocked McCarthy basically forced his way outta there, rumors stem from not getting enough control or being forced to train his replacement(Witten).

It is almost like, keeping Loomis on has consequences and only Mrs. Gayle can't see it.

We can see why Loomis was hesitant to fire Allen. I'm not saying he should not have been. But he was at least serving as a scapegoat while we fixed the cap hell we are in. Now we have to hire a coach who is willing to be that lame duck who can't even begin building for another year or two.

The transition from brees and Payton has gone as poorly as one could imagine.

Why do people have to be viewed as spewing criticism, when it’s really just reality? I’ll admit that I always said that any HC position is an attractive destination, IF a guy is wanting to be a HC. Sure some situations may be better, but no one should scoff at a promotion/continue their position at another location. After viewing how all of the positions got filled up, yes it does look like we were the least or one of the least desirable positions. The good news is that there are some good candidates out there and more could be available after today’s games. We are in a good spot, regardless of how we are “viewed” around the league

Loomis did say in his interview a few weeks ago with the media that his biggest flaw is his patience. I think if we won 3 super bowls in a row and our HC retired, we would still be last in hiring someone.

There is a strange turn of agendas going on. Underpants went from rizzi interview is impressive to sky is falling cause muh Joe Brady declined the interview ( probably not even knowing the real reason why declined) but skipped straight to theatrical drama. Meanwhile whiffed on the “Glenn mischaracterization” underpants is on the outside and he’s mad.

Or you know, he doesn't have an agenda and is just reporting the facts as they happen and then giving opinions based on the facts as we know them.

And Nick has always held the view that the NFL tells you who you are both for free agents that think they are worth more and for teams. So yes, Glenn and Brady turning the Saints down is not a good look and it should be a wakeup call to Loomis that the NFL does not view his team as good as he thinks they are, but Nick also has said it doesn't mean you can't get a good coach and it doesn't necessarily mean that Loomis is wrong and the rest of the NFL is right. But, it does appear that the NFL thinks things are worse than Loomis is willing to publicly admit. I do think that Loomis is more aware of the issues than he is willing to publicly admit, but we will soon see if his actions reflect that. Although to some extent it doesn't matter if he thinks things are bad or not, the cap situation really limits what we can do as far as tearing things down so the only question is will he kick the can to sing more free agents than last year.

When I sit back and really think about it. Do you see Mickey really hitching his Job retention to a rookie head coach? It's jus my opinion . Who Dat!

Based on the thread that RebelMax just posted, who has proven to have inside info in the past, it sound like Moore is the Saints first choice for HC and if they can't get him, McCarthy is the fall back position. None of this is a great look for the team or Loomis, but if the worst case scenario is McCarthy then it still a much better hire than they made 3 years ago and IMO a better hire than Dallas, Las Vegas, and maybe the Jacksonville made.

I was struck by the recent online comments by particularly Nick Underhill and by Mike Triplett over the Saints' search for a head coach. Two comments by Underhill in the last 24 hours on his X platform. "The Saints can no longer hide from how they're viewed by people around the league." And an earlier post: "The Saints are not an attractive destination right now." Presumably, the comments seem in part the result of Aaron Glenn and Joe Brady not even giving the team the courtesy of an in-person interview given their past associations with the organization. And I am struck that an interview with Mike McCarthy has not been firmly scheduled.

Admittedly, I no longer subscribe to New Orleans Football, so I do not know what Underhill has been writing about the organization over the past nine months. I have found that in the past he was reluctant to challenge in a fundamental way Loomis's management of the team.

These comments are important not because of what they say but who is saying them. If Underhill and Triplett are becoming increasingly critical of the team's front office, then their comments may have the effect of giving permission to the media as a whole to be more critical. Something to keep an eye on.
I read the article, I disagree w/ it but Nick is susceptible to emotional turmoil and will inherently give those types of takes from time to time.

We are at the mercy of the time it takes to hire someone, until we do, we have to accept that these conversations and thoughts will pervade the media.

This comes w/ the territory of losing

They're just angling for clicks. Sign of the times.

Nowadays anyone can have a podcast, Xtwitter account, website, and say and speculate whatever they want... it's rather easy to go around the web, read comments on youtube, forums, etc. get a bit of an idea what fans are saying, and run to the podcast/Xtwitter/website to confirm that bias.

There could be a number of reasons why candidates didn't want a 1st or 2nd interview other than the Saints job being undesirable:

1. Security that another team told 'em "you are the guy" and incertitude around the other openings.
2. They know who the team's favorite candidate is and it's not them.
3. They could've had a bad 1st interview and don't want to further embarrass themselves.
4. It could be the wife doesn't want to move the kids from school.
5. They could've had seconds thoughts about becoming a HC.
6. They could be very happy in their current situation.
7. They could've gotten a case of cold feet.
8. They could have a strong preference for a particular city/area in the country.
9.They could have a strong dislike for the city/area in the country no matter how good the job is.

But no, it must be the Saints job is undesirable, because the talking heads and the comment sections say so.

And the reporters and talking heads... go ask Joe Brady why he didn't want the 2nd interview. Do your job and get a freaking quote (even if it's a neutral canned one) We all can speculate with the best of 'em; we don't need you to speculate for us.

Now see, I disagree here. You can build through the draft from jump AND doing so helps you clear cap.

"Building a team" doesn't mean "signing a bunch of FAs" -- in fact, bringing on a bunch of free agents is a notably poor way to build a football team.

The transition from Brees and Payton has gone as poorly as one could imagine.
You're on the money here. "Keeping it going" without Brees was a fool's errand. Had Jameis Winston stayed healthy all 2021 and continued to improve, maybe Payton stays and you can build from there. Once that all fell through and Payton left, though ... a new culture built from the ground up was needed.

Watching Moore passing game with Eagle's gives my no confidence in his offense. He must be a master motivator, leader of men. I hope so! Who Dat
