Was this game more personal after Winston got hurt? (1 Viewer)

Textbook example of why this rule exists. How many players have torn up their knees because of horse collar tackles?
I’ll never forget the TO horse collar that led to this rule. The Eagles were cooking with him, and his horse collar in the NFC tittle game sunk the Eagles. They still made the Super Bowl, but he wasn’t playing, and the Eagles were stuck with Freddie Mitchell as their #1 wr (and we think our wide receiver group is bad).

There is a reason you can't tackle like that. It hurts people and the players know it. Devin White is a dirty player. Last season he speared Kamra straight to the head in our game in Tampa. He targeted Deonte in the playoffs and put him out of the game, He rode Kamara to the ground out of bounds today ,horse collar from behind trying to land on his legs. He got a taunting penalty after he speared Ingram on the ground. He knows exactly wht he is doing. I'm glad every recap from this game they call his name when they say Winston was injured on a illegal horse collar tackle by DEVIN WHITE. He deserves every bit of the scrutiny he's got coming his way
It was a dirty play by a dirty cheap shot artist player. If the Saints had done that to Brady the player would wind up with a fine and a suspension. A fine here would not surprise me.

Feel me in. What happened and at what point in the game? Who came in at QB?
Jameis was escaping the pocket to his left when a Bucs defender grabbed him by the upper shoulder pads and pulled him backwards causing an awkward angle to Winston's leg..
He crumpled to the ground for a few minutes, tried to get back up then he crumpled to the ground again.

Trevor Siemian came in and did as good of a job as he could, under the circumstances.

It wasn't a dirty play, or a play in which the defensive player intended to hurt Winston. The reason why the flag was thrown is because the definition of a horse collar has expanded way beyond the collar. Someone will probably post a picture, but the defender grabbed the side of the back pad below the shoulder pads. At any other angle, nothing happens to Winston.
It was a clear horse collar tackle because the current rule includes the nameplate of the player on the back of the jersey. The reason this area is also includes is because grabbing that area can give you dangerous backwards leverage on the ball carrier that easily cause injury similar to grabbing the actual collar of the shoulder pads and jersey.

Yep, I remember that play. Textbook

Yes it was a bad angle, but a bad angle is not necessarily dirty, and again, the reason why the ref called a horse collar is that they expanded the rule. You can see in the image below that the TB player is pulling Winston from the sleeve, below below Winston's name plate, and not even down, but to the side.

There were plenty of cheap shots given, but this one wasn't one of them.

What do you mean, "not down"? I don't understand how you can say "not down". He clearly pulled him to the side AND down. Otherwise, Winston's upper body would not have gone DOWN as well.

I knew this would be a hard fought game and once he got hurt they turned the intensity up. You know it’s bad when coach was crying

He didn't grab the name plate.
