Watching Football on TV (LED/OLED) (1 Viewer)

not sure if you have you tried:

pressing the cog button on the remote - a bunch of tabs will pop up at the bottom - then going to the right until you get to "audio system" tab and seeing what is selected

or pressing the cog button on the remote - selecting settings - display & audio - then audio output: Theres a bunch of options in there
Yeah, did those. I might try again this weekend

Well, I must say that I don't know how great the OLED would have been, but the QLED is absolutely glorious!

I actually got it a day early and set it up yesterday evening in time to watch the Browns vs Broncos, played a little Wii Switch with the daughter, watched a little Desolation of Smaug, the live action Alice in Wonderland, the last episode of Bad Batch and a few episodes of Mandalorian. It's like watching everything completely anew! I think I'm going to start re-watching the BoB series first then go from there. Can't wait for the Saints game Monday night!

Yeah, mine is an older receiver as well, I think 2009. I'll tinker with the TV menu and see if there's a way to do audio out through the TV eArc/HDMI port.
ARC was first introduced in 2009, so I doubt your 2009 receiver supports the ARC HDMI input unless it was a top of the line. My older receiver doesn't pick ARC up, but my newer one does. Likely have to use the optical input instead.

I am not sure if mine does or not, but is it an automatic thing or do you have to set it to pick up ARC?

And yeah, optical is what I probably will end up doing. Just not sure I have an optical cable. Never used it before.

The 50" QN90A has finally gone on sale again. Unfortunately none of the Best Buy stores within a 100 mile radius have it available. Going to wait til tomorrow & order it from Amazon if I still can't get it locally.
Thanks for the heads up. The price jump from the 55” to the 65” is crazy, $1300 to $1950. I wish Best Buy had a TCL 6 series on demo. All that’s on the wall is a 50” 4 series. I can see the difference between the QN90A and the Samsung Q60A.

I think either 55 or 65 is right for the room. The latter would necessitate moving a couch.

My current receiver is a Denon that is connected to the TV using the ARC HDMI input. It picks it up automatically anytime I turn on the TV, the Receiver turns on and it automatically plays the TV Audio. It even says TV Audio.

My old receiver is a Harmon Kardon, it does not pick up the ARC input from the TV although I did try to connect it. I have it wired using the audio output to the direct inputs and that is how I use it to interface and listen to the big speakers for the TV in the bedroom.

A friend has a newer HK receiver that does support ARC. On it there is an input select and you have to manually set it to support ARC, but once you tell it the first time that you are using ARC, it just works.

If you look at the HDMI inputs on your receiver, one of them would likely say ARC if it is supported. My Denon has one labeled for ARC and my buddies HK is also labeled for ARC.

Cool, prolly gonna take a shot at it tonight.

$1950 for 65 isn't a great price at the moment. I suspect that it'll be around $1600 on black friday/cyber monday. I have no insider knowledge, just a hunch. But after seeing side by side comparison reviews, I don't think that samsung Qn90a is $600+ better compared to the $999 65 inch tcl R646.

So, I've routed the cable box to the TV, but I'm not sure how to get sound from the TV to the surround sound receiver. The HDMI from the eArc to the receiver isn't sending sound to it. Isn't it an "In" port rather than out?
On my new(ish) system eArc is a two-way street. The tv and the receiver were released in 2020. My older systems don't have eArc and those seem to be one way only. If one unit doesn't suppirt eArc, it won't work.

If anybody is still looking for a new TV, here's a good deal.

48" LG C1, 6 months of HBO, and earbuds $1,100.

That's not too bad. I'll be looking for something similar for the basement before long. Son lives down there and doesn't have his own TV yet.

If only my tv was that cheap. I paid 1800 for a 55 inch.
