Watching Football on TV (LED/OLED) (3 Viewers)

Try plugging the receiver into the eArc hdmi input. On my setup, everything that's plugged into the tv goes through the receiver and I don't have to switch inputs on the TV. It also frees up other inputs on the receiver.
So, I've routed the cable box to the TV, but I'm not sure how to get sound from the TV to the surround sound receiver. The HDMI from the eArc to the receiver isn't sending sound to it. Isn't it an "In" port rather than out?

You may have to go to the menu and select the out. Depends on if you're doing analog or digital. I'm using an optical out to my receiver but I am using the same receiver I bought in 2007.

Yeah, mine is an older receiver as well, I think 2009. I'll tinker with the TV menu and see if there's a way to do audio out through the TV eArc/HDMI port.

My receiver doesn't have HDMI so I have to use optical but HDMI carries sound. In fact if I did have HDMI in my receiver I still would connect my 4k blu-ray directly into the tv because I want the shortest distance possible to it. I'm guessing some receivers boost the signal a little to compensate but I want the best possible picture and sound coming from my baby. My OPPO was 550 bucks and they aren't going to make them anymore. Bastages!

Yeah, I'm probably doing it wrong, but when I switched TV settings to external speakers, the sound went from the TV to nada. I have a Bravia sound system that worked fine with my older Bravia TV, but the new Bravia TV isn't sending the sound to the sound system. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong yet, lol.

Once I figure it out, I'll probably smack myself for missing it. :hihi:

I could help more if I was able to go through the settings myself but seeing as how that's not an option we're left with me babbling on about whatever pops into my head next.

I'm not entirely sure why but select Dolby Vision for HDMI 3 and Enhanced for HDMI 4. It's a 30 minute video and I'm browsing through it.

Most of that is for adjusting screen settings. Not seeing anything related to sound there. I appreciate the effort tho. I'll get to it later today when I have some time.
I know, I was throwing that in there as well but my latest message addresses the sound problem.
