We Needed This Beatdown (1 Viewer)

Yes, we are on the bottom. The absolute worst team in the league. And while it’s true that we are rock bottom, the big worry is how long will we flat line down here. The decisions we make this offseason will go a long way to answering that concern.
One of the worst rosters in the NFL and we're STILL picking 10th right now. Thats NASTY work.

The Saints will receive an even greater beatdown next Sunday. It’ll be brutal and I’m not sure I’m up to watching it outside of seeing Rattler one more time before the offseason.

No #1 RB, #1 C, #1 or #2 WR, #1 QB, #1 LG, #2 CB and traded away your #1 CB or your biggest offensive threat in Taysom.

Yeah I get it tear it down, but let’s not act like this isn’t a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string guys playing in place of all your primary starters.
How many years do we have to hear this? We’ve had half our team on IR for the last 3 years. Is it the water? I don’t have the answers but this team is snakebit.

I'm in agreement with the OP. The biggest need is HC, and we're not getting one of those who's worth his salt with the situation the way it is: a team in cap hell, an aging roster, and an FO that's lost its way.

We need a new direction, and in order to lure that direction, we need to cut the overhead, trade off what talent we can, unless a gem falls to us, trade away what draft picks we can for future picks, embrace a crap season, all so we can lure the next leader of the franchise.

Other than that? We're a small market team that hasn't done much since the world thinks we stole a Lombardi. That's how the media portrayed us. It isn't true, but there it is.

but if the cap was in check, they could afford adequate backups.
When will people understand that NO team pays starter $ to backups, even teams with tons of cap space. That's what the draft is for getting quality depth that could become starters

This yr it's 80% injuries , last yr more talent and bad OC issues. Could say the same for 21. 20 was covid + injuries

I disagree, we may not get Johnson or maybe Vrabel but there are a few good candidates out there. And market means noting in the NFL not like the NBA

This was not a good team when we had most of those pieces. It's not going to be a good one with them next year. We have no depth precisely because we screwed the cap up so badly. The time to rip the bandaid off is now. Eat some contracts, sign UDFAs, start all your drafted rookies, and play for the future next year.

This is why I did not want to extend Kamara. We did ourselves in further for a fan favorite who will end up retiring before we are even competitive again. Taysom is 35 and made of glass at this point. Our #1 WR has the type of concussion issues that end careers. Our #2 WR is a glorified #3 WR.

The time for drastic changes is now because if this culture festers another couple of seasons, we could end up in a really bad place as a franchise.
We have no depth because we draft POORLY And that blame goes not so much on ML but on The HC and the scouting dept. Even if we had cap space no team pays starter $ to backup players. AND with the level of decimation the team was from injuries we would have had to be 4 deep with starters in some places.
The 1st 2 games shows what we could be, and that nonsense about beating bad teams is just that. That is just what good teams do, beat up bad teams.

I think the fans needed this beating more than the coaches/front office.... all the dreaming of we can still make the playoffs..... it's not over after the 7 losses in a row....

I don’t disagree, but reality is reality. If they have a good draft but return most of this years talent they can add quality depth in the draft.

Still think this was a 8-10 win team w/ out all the injuries. We were a top heavy roster, we knew that coming in, but no one expected us to see the rash of debilitating injuries we got.

Best thing to happen is pick low, not to burn it all down but to have access to talent that you wouldn’t had we won 9 games but missed the playoffs.

Picking 8-10 spots back in every round of the draft means you miss out on roughly 70 potential players because you pick so far back.
AHHHH the voice of reason. People scream this "Next man up " mantra but that's just hogwash. If the next man up was as good or even slightly worse than a starter it would make a difference, but they are not and especially when this team suffered maybe the most injuries to the most starters of any team in the last 30 yrs. Sometimes fan perspective is just WHACKED

Agree with everything except I'd like to see what rattler could do with olave and shaheed. Run it back with them and go 4-13 like you say. Gotta cut carr and not restructure old players and get under the cap without kicking the can again

Listen. There are human beings on this board, that say depth is depth. That every team loses when they get into their depth. Ignoring 'quality' depth. Ignoring the next man up being a 3rd round pick instead of a UDFA. Now, those same people propped up Dennis Allen for nearly 3 years, and honestly probably would still be defending him today.

But people need to really take a step back and realize that in this example, the Packers have drafted 24 more players in a 5 year period. That's an extra draft pick worthy player at every single position on the field, plus 2 more picks. An entire team of draft graded, drafted depth. I just fail to see how thats not, enormously easy to understand. We have poor quality starters. Old men playing multiple positions. Our best WR is a guy someone else didn't want 5 weeks ago. And nearly the entirety of our 'depth' wouldn't even be on other rosters.

And to nail down the point of how we've been conditioned to not value draft picks, there is a thread asking if we could potentially trade draft picks for Shanahan. You cant make this stuff up.

We are where we are because of Loomis. There is no other way around it. His decisions in the draft and the cap. Its all on him.
Yeah and GB got 3 picks for Rodgers, A 1st , a 2nd and a 6th and a conditional 2nd

He had Olave the whole Chargers game and it was his worst
