What happens to Reggie when Mike Bell returns? (1 Viewer)

you can say that about everybody not named Drew Brees...try again buddy...and Pierre is not even close to being as explosive, elusive or as dangerous as Reggie, PT makes plays the best way PT can make plays and thats not with speed, elusiveness or explosion, there not the same player not matter how much you'd like to believe it, I think people hate or frustration with Bush causes them to exadurate when they put him down.
PT looks like the explosive, elusive and dangerous back, not reggie. PT is the one making plays the last 2 games, in both the receiving and rushing game.

Oh no, you cant say anything bad about PT he does everything perfect every single time, havent you been following, this is a one of millions of threads about every single thing Reggie Bush has not done great or whatever mistake he has made...you can tell by the same recycled complaints that appear to be only things Reggie can do wrong and no other back.

right! nobody mentions that PT was 0-3 in short yardage situation or that he fumbled the ball, or that he had 5 yards on 6 first half carries, while Reggie was running to the tune of 6.0 YPC. i mean does no one feel that if Reggie had continued to get carries that he could have easily out rushed PT? it wasn't like PT was breaking all kind of tackles, he was getting good blocking up front and hitting the holes. same thing we saw out of Bush yesterday too. it's just as i stated and have been saying for months now, if we play with a lead Payton will use the bigger more grinding type runner. and so far it's been that case in all 4 games and the trend will continue.

the defense was keying on PT, and coach payton didnt learn how to use him until the last 13 carries.

you also said bush was going to get 250+ carries this year... im not putting much stock into what you say.:hihi:

Come on now, you can't be serious

i'd say they both look pretty explosive, elusive and dangerous, but the fact is PT has just gotten more opportunnities. it's easy to look good when you are constantly getting to the 2nd and 3rd levels of the Defense untouched, because our Oline is dominating tired Defenses.

where is that explosion, elusive and dangerous-ness on short yardage carries? PT seems to lack it there.

PT still can't get the short yardage when it counts. I'll take a swing pass or outside toss to Bush on 3rd and 1 any day over PT up the middle.

im gonna go crazy if another person blames short yardage on the running backs

short yardage is not the running backs responsibility 99.9% of the time

in fact.....when we started gaining serious yardage on the ground.....nobody was touching our running backs until the secondary

the offensive line is almost solely responsible for the success of the running game....running backs are interchangeable with a talented offensive line and PT and mike bell have shown that

So everybody is on a game by game basis, ok I get it....you guys are the only one judging these guys game by game, first Bell was the man, now he's outa sight outa mind, now PT is the man...and Reggie had a pretty good game vs Buffalo and ran well against the Jets, but you have to be a fan of his to give him credit, and your not, so you dont...i'm understanding how this whole thing goes with you Reggie Haters.

Let me state the obvious for you:

Heath Evans couldn't pound it in from 1 yard out and drew brees had two attempts to gain 1 yard......do we bench Brees because he is 0-2 on third and fourth down?

You fail to mention (naturally) that on 3rd and 2 PT picked up 8 yards on our first drive and from 1 yard out he scored when they knew we were running it up only 7.

The 4th quarter 4th and inches was a horrible call, a quick QB sneak would have picked up the yardage, still mad at Payton for that call that could have cost us the game.

of course its a game by game basis.....if reggie plays well then he is gets credit.....if he struggles then he gets bashed....unfortunately reggie has had more bad games than good ones this season

its not that he isnt talented, because he is very talented....but when you turn the ball over nobody will remember the great plays you made....history has shown that as well

I posted yesterday after the game and mentioned Pierre's fumble and indicated if he continues fumbling, he's going to be on the bench as well. Listen, I think Mike Bell is the most complete back the Saints have. Pierre is not all-world, and most posters are objective and point out his problems as well. His mistakes are there for everyone to see. He was lucky his fumble was recovered yesterday. In the NFL, I don't care how good a back is, if he consistently lays the ball on the carpet, his butt is going to be on the bench. It goes for Reggie, and it goes for Pierre as well.

When Reggie plays well, he'll get the credit he deserves. When he doesn't, he's going to get criticized (and rightly so). Unlike Thomas and Bell, he's a high draft choice and expectations of his play are higher to begin with. Plus, he's continuing to make the same mistakes over and over again.

i can see reggie developing to be a 3rd down passing back, or being rotated in with Bell and Pierre every now and then for a fresh set of legs.

Man, I'm about as big a Reggie guy as there is, but even I have to admit that it would seem silly to keep forcing him into the game with a healthy Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas available.

PT has been so good that I suppose a case could be made to keep him as the primary back, but from what we've seen so far this year I'd argue for:

1st down: Bell
2nd down: Bell and Thomas split equally
3rd Down: Thomas mostly - a little Reggie

I would not be shocked to see Reggie's playing time be greatly diminished once we have a full stable of backs again.

Bottom line is that Reggie will almost certainly not be back next year unless he agrees to a MASSIVE pay cut.

Nothing happens to Reggie. He will get his normal touches.

Reggie has regressed? he has his higest YPC since he's been in the league. the only thing that has regressed is his carries cause we are playing with leads more now and have been going with the bigger back option to wear teams out in the 2nd half.

3 fumbles in four games is a regression, especially compared to last year. He's always had ball security problems, but the fact that it's still a problem in his 4th year in the league indicates a regression for the mere fact of failure to improve/fix this problem during his time in the league.

I understand his ypc is 4.1 so far and was pleased with his decisions running the ball yesterday, but please stop fumbling. And yes I'm aware that Pierre fumbled as well and I'm equally as displeased with it yesterday. But as a whole, Pierre hasn't had nearly the ball security problems that reggie has had, which is why people aren't jumping all over him (yet).
