What if Drew Brees has a change of heart and wants to return for 2021? Do we risk losing Jameis like we did with Teddy or do we honor Drew's wish (2 Viewers)

Didn't Drew have to think about whether he wanted to come back this year? I can't see him trying to play another year beyond this season. I think it would be unwise.
Usually "running it back" which is a hardcourt term for one more game bites you in the arse. This is the second time Drew has ran it back after the NFC Championship game against the Rams. A third would most certainly be disastrous.

Edit: I think this year Drew leaves it all on the field. I have a feeling he is going to use every ounce of football juice and will power he has left to try to get us to the big game.

I really don't think Drew's arm strength is the issue. I do suspect that something is going on with that thumb. I don't understand why he is no longer wearing the sling/brace on the thumb. I'm sure it is an annoyance, but I feel that his loss of accuracy is due to an inconsistent feel of the football when throwing a pass.

Also appears that some of it is also his confidence behind the o-line (as I've stated before).

One thing about sports is that you can only stay on the pedestal for so long. I won’t gaslight anyone by saying Brees looks all world. But the way some of you are carrying on is a bit absurd. Second half Drew is PLENTY good enough to lead us to the playoffs and the SB. He is starting to find a rhythm.

That said I personally don’t think he comes back next season. He was getting pimped slapped by the DLine on a few plays and had to peal himself off of the ground. He was even hobbling after the game. He’s not signing up for another season of hits at his age. That’s the real reason why he doesn’t launch as often. I don’t believe he has full trust in that space between the left guard and Center. But, we’ve already beat that analysis to death.

I just have a sneaky feeling about what’s unfolding. This season will end just like this game did. We had a rough start. People will count us out. We’ll hang around and chip away at the PO seeding. We’ll find our rhythm yet keep the games close. Then win it all in dramatic fashion. It’s all playing out before us.

how many backups in nfl history have thrown for over 5,000 yards and 30 plus tds in the same season. I know of 2 hall of famers who have thrown for more than 25 interceptions.. peyton manning had 28, favre had 29, and george blanda had 42. Winston signing with us was a gift just like teddy was( and we let him get away because drew wouldnt give it up), im sure if you ask the offensive players who they would rather have under center right now between brees and winston they would all say winston

How many wins does he have?
How many losses were because of him?
You can throw up all the numbers you want, that doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t win games.

Winston and Teddy are not good enough to win a Super Bowl. Drew is, the end.

Teddy led this team to five consecutive wins in 2019 during one of, if not the, hardest part(s) of our schedule. The idea that Brees in 2020 is a better QB to lead a team to a Super Bowl in preference to a healthy Teddy Bridgewater at 13 years his junior is absolutely debatable, for mine.

And Taysom? Many times we have heard that he ignites the team. That even defensive players stand to look of what he is doing.

That is the trust I am talking about. I have not heard anything similar about Jamies Winston.

Finally, if we know something about Sean Payton is his hate for turning the ball. He won't trust his team to a potential turnover machine.

Jameis at some point can be the quarterback of the future for the saints, but for that many things have to happen, including Jameis showing he can dramatically reduce his interceptions. Chances are he won't get that opportunity.

How can you talk about Winston being a “turnover machine” in the same breath as advocating for Taysom, who had a 1.3/1 TD/INT ratio in College and is yet to throw a TD pass in the pros? Compared to Winston in College who had a 2.3/1 ratio?

Hill may or may not be an NFL-caliber starting QB (I suspect he won’t be) but Winston’s credentials are established. Hill turned the ball more frequently in College than Winston did in Tampa Bay.

I am advocating for no-one. I wrote that he ignites the team. Yes, you may not like it but the team has Taysom on high esteem. That certainly doesn't make him the quarterback of the future, but it helps.

And Jameis being a turnover machine? Numbers don't lie.

That was the impression of the schedule based on 2018's results, but other than Seattle, the reality of the teams the Saints played in 2019 was different.

Frankly, the entire 2019 season wasn't one of facing juggernaut after juggernaut, and hindsight and all of that, it probably was not really what we think it was. Obviously, the schedule is what it is, you can only play the team in front of you.

As for the second part, yes, it'd make for a good debate.

That thought did occur to me when I made the post, but some of those opponents during October were a very different proposition then compared to how they finished the season, be it due to injury or form. Seattle were 2-0 (road game), Dallas 3-0, Tampa Bay were 2-2 but coming off a big win over the Rams who destroyed us, Jacksonville were 2-3 (road game) and Chicago were 3-2 (road game).

Five wins. Five GD wins. That’s your measuring stick?

The hypothetical question was, in 2021, which of Teddy Bridgewater or Drew Brees is or would be better placed to lead the Saints to a Super Bowl?

Teddy won five games from five starts last year. It was literally the best result he could have achieved for the team over that period.

Meanwhile, 2020 was slated as a development year for Carolina, who were projected by all and sundry to finish last in the NFC South. They started 0-2 and lost CMC, who is easily their best player and the #1 RB in the entire league. In McCaffrey's absence, Teddy has gone on to lead the team to three straight wins with a ragtag cast of players on offense. Robby Anderson, DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel, Mike Davis, Chris Manhertz: not a Pro Bowl selection amongst the five of them. Compare that to Sanders, Kamara, Cook, Murray, Hill. Elite talent by comparison.

That's my measuring stick. And I stand by my point.
