What if Drew Brees has a change of heart and wants to return for 2021? Do we risk losing Jameis like we did with Teddy or do we honor Drew's wish (1 Viewer)

I think it's too early for this discussion. Let's see how Drew performs. I do have a question however. Didn't Jamis have interception problems in Tampa bay?
He had a turnover problem in general, including fumbles.

For every 16 games, he averaged 24 turnovers.

You think this middling defense could survive that?

Im watching Teddy play and he has had a career revival since learning under sean payton, i have no idea how the panthers are winning without cmc. But do we risk losing Jameis who also seems to have taken his career more seriously by getting in shape and learning from sean payton in similar fashion if Drew wants to return next year.
It's time, let him move on with dignity and not have to drag his arse out of town with head bowed.

I think he wants to play next year but realizes his brand is damaged in New Orleans after the summer protests. There are many teams are will give him a 2 year contract.

Drew is throwing to multiple people we’ve never heard of. He isn’t the 2021 guy but some of these comments are nuts. Let’s get thru the bye before we start the “bench Drew” threads.
Aaron Rodgers was throwing to people we never hear of as well. All QBs do, but the rumor is that our WRs are the only professional athletes that don’t get open and that’s the excuse that Brees cultists use to shield Brees. He should have retired last season, but we’re stuck with it now so let’s just run the ball and see where it gets us.

If Brees retiring means we need to see Taysom Hill at QB, then I’d beg Brees to comeback. I’d it’s an open completion and Winston can get his shot, then fine. But I’d have Brees on speed dial. But if Oayton decides our next QB is Winston? That’s the move. Either that or we trade the house (and Winston) to move up for Lawrence.

I as well believe Drew is playing his last season. Rumours were he had a TV deal in place and was going to transition to the West Coast.
As far as going forward who knows. Never thought we'd ever have a Hall of Famer in his prime leading this franchise. Good and bad I'm savoring every moment and seeing glimpses of the greatness of Drew is worth it.
I will let next season play out after we watch the all time greatest Saint play his final season.

I don't know about Jameis as a franchise guy. I don't know about Taysom as a franchise guy. I will say that Id like to see Taysom get a full offseason and full preseason as the starter and see what he can do. But ultimately, you don't know what he will look like full time.

What I do know is, Brees is done. Brees had 2 things keeping him above water despite a severe lack of arm strength - Wisdom and surgical accuracy. The accuracy is mostly gone. Event the announcers said that he isn't putting the ball in a spot to allow his receivers to run. The short passes are all over the place. Swings to Kamara require Kamara make circus catches behind the LOS. He is a game manager at best. But his arm has really, really taken a dive.

And I never bought into him needing a big arm. He was efficient the last few years and the offense was still humming along. But the lack of arm strength has taken a nose dive, even from last year. It is, bad.

I think Brees came back to prevent Brady from playing in NOLA. I think Brees came back to extend his records. I think he came back because he saw a crack in the window and didn't want to walk away with that window still slightly open.

But its time. He just looks like an old man playing football. Last year, I thought Brady had declined and Brees was holding up a little better. This year I feel like Brady has pretty much stayed the same as last year while Brees floored the gas pedal of aging. And while Brady is a year or two older, he will probably playing another 2-3 years. Brady will eventually own virtually every one of Brees' passing records. He is only down a few TD passes. He is less that a season behind in passing yardage.

So he did prevent Brady from playing in NOLA. But Brees simply cant play another year. He is too far gone. Next year Brady will eclipse at the least the 2 major records, Yards and TDs. Theres no avoiding that for Brees.

Winston isn’t under contract for next year so a trade involving him can’t happen.

Brees has been playing without his #1 WR, we all know how much Drew loves to feed his #1 guy, it has been that way for over a decade. Sure, he spreads the ball out, but he NEEDS his security blanket, and that security blanket has been out. Drew has really started to get in sync with his #2 (temporary #1 WR) the last couple of weeks. This has the potential to be huge down the stretch.

Emmanuel Sanders the last two weeks:

6 catches on 9 targets for 93 yards vs Detroit
12 catches (career high) on 14 targets for 122 yards vs Chargers

When Mike gets back, how do they cover these guys?

Drew Brees comes back if he wants to come back and if Tom Brady comes back. Drew won't quit if Brady won't quit. The only way either of them quits is if they both decide to quit at the same time.

Barring injury, if the Saints make the playoffs, I think Brees comes back next year......unless they win the Super Bowl OR they defeat Tampa Bay in the playoffs and Brees outduels Brady.
