What is your most favorite non playoff moment in SAINT history. (1 Viewer)

Season ender on New Year's Eve 1990 vs Rams in prime time. Time running out, Eric Martin catches a short slant from Steve Walsh and takes it upfield 25 yards for a first down in Andersen's field goal range. Morten proceeded to kick us into the playoffs.

#4. The Carolina miracle.........the crazy kickoff return that was about to put us into the playoffs.......then....the John Karney fiasco.......for a few seconds, what a great moment.

Not sure i have ever seen someone get one of their "favorite memories" so mentally twisted. First off, it was John "Carney" (call it grammar police or whatever, but the guy was our kicker for like a decade, so it is kind of inexcusable)........second, that was vs. Jacksonville.........third, it was not a kickoff, it was a multiple-lateral play from scrimmage.....and lastly, we were NOT ABOUT TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. People have spread that blatant misinformation for years about the Carney extra point miss.

Re-opening of the Dome and Gleason's block is my #1 of all time INCLUDING the NFCCG and the SB... But as an old-timer I'll add three from "back in the day"

1. John Gilliam returns the opening kick the first time a Saint ever touched the ball in a regular season game.. Remember we had gone 5-1 in pre-season (yes there were 6 appropriately named Exhibition Games back then)... this NFL thingy was going to be easy lol

2. Archie scores as time expires in his first game against the Rams - NOW this NFL thingy was going to be easy

3. Tom Dempsey's kick... by now we knew this NFL thingy was not going to be easy and we celebrated like we had won the Super Bowl

Now we're talking. I was also going to say Dempsey's kick to beat the Lions, and Archie scoring that TD against the Rams. I remember that like yesterday...the Rams had the fearsome foursome and were practically unbeatable, especially for us lowly Saints, and Archie was just a rookie and he did it. I expected great things after that...but it sure took a long time after Archie for it to happen.

In more modern times, it has to be the reopening of the Dome, and the absolute beat down we gave the Patriots in the Dome. I've NEVER seen Brady and Belicheck so demoralized and defeated. Ever.

Great times.

I don't remember the year, sometime between 06-08. Duece was starting to be thought of as getting old and broken down, and then he put a beating on the Eagles. Ran all over them and pushed the pile a few times.

Brett Maxie, Jim Wilks and Vaughan Johnson stopping the 4th and 1 on the Goal line - winners at last.....what a memory!

I sort of remember the tv focusing on the defensive line right before the play and ark and wills and the rest banging each other's helmets fired up beyond belief and saying. No way they score. Winners at last

You may recall his first attempt was blocked. But the Rams were clearly off side. By almost 2 yards. But for a fleeting horrific few seconds it was like. Only my Saints. Lol

I remember very well in 73 watching our D bottle up and destroy O. J. Simpson and the Bills in a 13-0 shut out. I think the same year we held up a game with the Eagles with crowd noise for about 20 minutes. Gabriel finally ran a sneak.

.

What's amazing is that the ball is placed down at the SAINTS 37 yd line!!!

(Yeah, I know, the goal posts were at the goal line back then.)

.

There needs to be an asterisk next to Dempsey's name to show that he was kicking BELOW SEA LEVEL to make that awesome kick.

And asterisks near other kickers who kicked at MILE HIGH stadium...

I fight this battle every time someone says that we would've made the playoffs had he made that kick. We were still in the hunt a that point but would've gotten eliminated later that day by another team's victory anyway (can't even remember the other team now...Cardinals?)

I remember this clearly. Me and a friend were staying at my brother's house who was out of town. We had dates for New Year's Eve and they were sitting there waiting for the game to end so we could catch New Years at a club. They were not happy that it was a possibility that we would miss the actual New Years countdown (EST). My friend and I were huge Saints fans and could care less. Needless to say the Saints made the playoffs...we made the countdown...and it was a great New Years. Neither of us dated the girls for long so it was a win/win.

For me, it was Drew Brees' perfect passer rating of 158.3 versus the New England Patriots in prime time in our 2009 season; I believe it was the 13th game, where we improved to 13-0, but my mind is fuzzy if that was the case.

I had never before seen Bilicheck and Brady with a total look of defeat on their faces, utter shock, to the point that he pulled his top starters with over 5 minutes left in the game, conceding defeat with a bewilderment on their face.

Payton was at the top of his offensive evolution and self scouting... what started in week one as Drew handing off to the HB in this particular formation alignment and personnel package, evolved to him faking the hand-off, pivoting to his right, and firing it a WR in the flat for a WR screen. A few weeks later, Drew would fake hand-off, pivot right, pump fake, spin 180 degrees and fire it to a WR in the left flat.

By the time we played the Patriots, Drew faked the hand-off, pivoted right and faked the throw, pivoted 180 and faked throw to the left flat, then squared up and hit Dave Thomas TE running a seam route unguarded down the middle of the field.

I can't remember watching a play evolve like that from week to week since Payton's forced leave of absence.

I also remember the Saints plan to basically shut down Randy Moss and force Brady to dump it to Welker and rally up for the tackle... they eliminated the Patriots biggest threat and did something very much Bilicheck-esque.

But also great about that game was that the Patriots were the measuring stick - the standard for greatness, and to dominate them in the fashion they did in primetime-- the only game close, for me, was when Payton's Saints forced Bill Parcells, as Cowboy HC, to simply concede defeat and start taking a knee with over two minutes left.

The Lions game in week 1 told me Drew and the offense would have an MVP pick your poison offense, the Bills game in week 2? told me they could find ways to win without much from the offense - a complete game with Special Teams, the Jets game in week 3? told me they could win with defense; the Miami comeback I think maybe in week 4 or 5 of that season told me this was a Super Bowl team... the Redskins game with Meachem's great play told me it was destiny, and the Patriots game removed any lingering doubt.

I remember Brady giving one of our players the finger from the sideline.
