What is your most favorite non playoff moment in SAINT history. (2 Viewers)

I remember very well in 73 watching our D bottle up and destroy O. J. Simpson and the Bills in a 13-0 shut out. I think the same year we held up a game with the Eagles with crowd noise for about 20 minutes. Gabriel finally ran a sneak.

Thanks for bringing up that Eagles game and the crowd stopping the game for 20 minutes.. Those metal bleachers in Tulane Stadium created such a din.. and the more Gabriel would turn to the official for help the louder we got.... We had nothing to lose so what the heck...

Despite the losing Tulane stadium was a crazy time

As a young-ish fan (now 30 years old), trying to think of something a little unconventional, I'll go with a game in 2001 in Carolina. We had gotten absolutely screwed earlier as the patsy who dared play against the Giants in their first home game after 9/11. The Saints, as they so often did under Jim Haslett, played down to their competition in the lowly Panthers (who would end the season at 1-15). With the Saints leading by 8 with 4 minutes to go, they managed to get their awful linebackers torched by former Saint Wesley Walls for a 23-yard touchdown pass and a 70-yard punt return for touchdown by Steve Smith and had to mound a furious comeback just to have a chance. The last play of the game saw the Saints on the Panthers' one-yard line with one second left to go. Mike McCarthy called a pitch to Ricky Williams around the left side. He turned the corner and ran inside the pylon for the touchdown after time had expired to earn the win. Back in those days, I was stuck with whatever game was on TV (almost never the Saints) but the NFL hadn't started charging to listen online to the radio call. I still remember Jim Henderson's radio call like it was yesterday: "They'll pitch it to Ricky. Sweeping left. Trying to turn the corner. To the pylon. HE'S IN!"

And then many years later Boomer Esiason used that against us.

And they stand to be ridiculed for being a jerk and a terrible representative of the Cajun heritage.. They could be stripped of your CoonAss card but it sounds like they never properly earned one. The rest of us Cajuns are raised to help one another in a time of need or weakness. Even if its a brain fart. We don't go around teasing our brothers and sisters because we don't agree with them or bc they mispeled something or if it juss aint propa' gramma'. We can do better as a family in my opinion. We are all born with the right to own opinions so please if you do not agree have the class to disagree without the ridicule that we left behind in grade school and properly inform your brother or sister where you believe they might have been mistaken. I can't stand a bully especially when it's for something so insignificant as improper English bc he and/or she might just not care at the moment or might be on the the phone. This isn't court its a fansite of the greatest fans in the world so lets represent with class.

I fight this battle every time someone says that we would've made the playoffs had he made that kick. We were still in the hunt a that point but would've gotten eliminated later that day by another team's victory anyway (can't even remember the other team now...Cardinals?)

Seattle

I loved the reopening of the dome, its was a feel good moment and an incredible night.

But for me is was 2009 when we dismantled the Pats without mercy on national TV. Nobody picked us to win, we were both undefeated, and the pats fans at the dome were feeling pretty cocky. We earned respect that night and put the league on notice.

The Patriots were 7-3 going into the game.

For me, it was Drew Brees' perfect passer rating of 158.3 versus the New England Patriots in prime time in our 2009 season; I believe it was the 13th game, where we improved to 13-0, but my mind is fuzzy if that was the case.

I had never before seen Bilicheck and Brady with a total look of defeat on their faces, utter shock, to the point that he pulled his top starters with over 5 minutes left in the game, conceding defeat with a bewilderment on their face.

Payton was at the top of his offensive evolution and self scouting... what started in week one as Drew handing off to the HB in this particular formation alignment and personnel package, evolved to him faking the hand-off, pivoting to his right, and firing it a WR in the flat for a WR screen. A few weeks later, Drew would fake hand-off, pivot right, pump fake, spin 180 degrees and fire it to a WR in the left flat.

By the time we played the Patriots, Drew faked the hand-off, pivoted right and faked the throw, pivoted 180 and faked throw to the left flat, then squared up and hit Dave Thomas TE running a seam route unguarded down the middle of the field.

I can't remember watching a play evolve like that from week to week since Payton's forced leave of absence.

I also remember the Saints plan to basically shut down Randy Moss and force Brady to dump it to Welker and rally up for the tackle... they eliminated the Patriots biggest threat and did something very much Bilicheck-esque.

But also great about that game was that the Patriots were the measuring stick - the standard for greatness, and to dominate them in the fashion they did in primetime-- the only game close, for me, was when Payton's Saints forced Bill Parcells, as Cowboy HC, to simply concede defeat and start taking a knee with over two minutes left.

The Lions game in week 1 told me Drew and the offense would have an MVP pick your poison offense, the Bills game in week 2? told me they could find ways to win without much from the offense - a complete game with Special Teams, the Jets game in week 3? told me they could win with defense; the Miami comeback I think maybe in week 4 or 5 of that season told me this was a Super Bowl team... the Redskins game with Meachem's great play told me it was destiny, and the Patriots game removed any lingering doubt.

We were 10-0 going into the game.

Gleason's block was great but Gilliams return is still one of the most exciting experiences of my life. The only play that compares to those two is Porter's pick 6 but that doesn't qualify since it was a playoff game.

Gleason's blocked punt would win in a landslide if this was a poll. That's why I'm only posting my #2 & #3:

Interesting commentary at the end about WHY Carney missed the extra point.

That

That game was Oct. 27, 1974. It was the second home game I ever missed as I had my appendix removed the day before, but my dad went to the game from the hospital and returned to my bedside afterward. I got to listen to the game on the radio with my aunt. Saints won.

I don't remember the year, sometime between 06-08. Duece was starting to be thought of as getting old and broken down, and then he put a beating on the Eagles. Ran all over them and pushed the pile a few times.

Your recollection of the PLAYOFF game that sent the Saints to their first ever NFC title game is THAT fuzzy? Smh.....
