With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (6 Viewers)

FWIW, Penning gave up 54 pressures as of last week, which was most in the league for a tackle. Fuaga gave up 39, which is 10th most (although he is a rookie).
Yes Penning needs work on pass-pro but he's a monster run blocker. And you know as well as I do PFF grades it as a won the rep or lost the rep. A pancake hole opening run block is just a won rep. Their grading has its flaws. Plus he is the most improved player on the team , he'll only get better @ pass-pro

Remind me of the definition of insanity again? How about we try something different if something isn't working after like the 5th time?
That's about as ridiculous an analogy to football as I've ever seen. Insanity is repeating the EXACT same thing expecting a different result. Every player is different. You still need a good OL not hitting on a player at that position does not mean you don't still need one. It's like QB, you don't stop drafting QBs because you didn't find the right one. SMH

take away breese's sack production and you aren't left with a whole lot of promise. maybe breese is a guy that needs that dominant big sidekick next to him. Partly why Grant from Michigan intrigues me a bit in draft.
Forget about PFF scores when it comes to Bresse, The way they grade is you win the rep or you lose the rep and they don't give credit for batted passes which Bresse is great at, and blocking a FG is just a won rep not he saved the game. Yes he needs work ate stopping the run but DT is the position it takes the longest to reach your ceiling and this is just his 2nd yr. Plus what does he have next to him? Mediocrity

It's obviously not enough because the OL is still bad. They tried the play better approach this year and it didn't work even with two of the best OL coaches in the NFL coaching them.

And I'm sorry to break this to you, but alleviating your boredom is not a particularly sound draft strategy.

I don't think OL is a must this year the way it was last year (but I also think value lined up with that must in Fuaga) but if the right guy is there, you can't exclude drafting an OL in the first if he is BPA. The same is true for any other position. We shouldn't force it, but it's not like we don't need help on the OL or really every other position.
But the OL even lacking talent at the OG positions did play great in the 1st 2 games, then they didn't play together for like 8 -9 wks and then it was too late. I think we are fine at LT,RT and C.. I'd like to make Ruiz a backup C and also backup RG and find a upgrade @ LG and RG in FA. Yes we draft IOL if it comes up on day 2 but a vet presence would be best. If we run the same system that KK is running upgrading the IOL would make the whole OL much better.

I don't want anybody on this board to ever mention this guy coming here. Played every game 15 tackles, (4 vs Texas) (1 vs UMASS) 5 sacks last year. About 2 or 3 of his sacks were open runs. Previous years 4.5 last year and 4.5 2023. I'll pass. I just watched his tape and its not good. He killed grass for majority of the year.
Thanks for the heads up

They actually get bonus points for pancakes. The scale for every play is from -2 to +2, with 0 being an average rep. A pancake would likely get a +2, which is how he had a few elite run blocking grades throughout the season.

Man, every time we get a pancake, we get called for holding. Maybe pancakes aren't the best metric. I kid, but sorta. Lol.

Hopefully Penning attends Duke's school again and Duke tells him to pass block like he run blocks. Because he is just vicious in the run game. I saw him manhandling 350lb DTs like they were DBs and just destroying their will to face him. I think he still may be overthinking his pass blocking.

One thing to consider is that we need a 3 year process of good picks to turn the roster.

I like the cliché of going fat guys first, but I think it is more important to understand the draft, pick a cornerstone with the first round pick, and be smart on your choices.

This is a good year for tight ends, pick one or two.

Same with defensive lineman.

And for offensive linemen, just look at the college teams that have solid lines (Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State) and pick from them.

No one is the correct answer. Trade down in Rounds 1-3, then start trading for next year’s picks in 4-7.
