With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (19 Viewers)

Ewers is among the several, several "good but not great" QBs available this year. None of them are transcendent enough to warrant a first-round grade. But that's just my opinion. You just know teams will take about three of them in the first round because they draft for need and not depth. We need quality depth in the worst way, so unless we address the trenches in free agency, the pick at 9 needs to be o- or d-line. Doesn't matter which.
Cam Ward fascinates me a bit. I like his maturity and play making ability. He’ll be long gone, probably 1st overall, but he’s the one in this class I like the most. Sanders looks good too but there’s just something that tells me he won’t be that dude.

Agreed, I really like Ward, he'll be much better than Sanders IMO.

I can see Ewers landing with the Rams or Seahawks and getting a Jordan Love type of learning curve.
LA would probably be the perfect spot for him. I’d love to see what McVay could do with developing him.

This is me

Whether or not you want to call this a rebuild, I would definitely trade our #9 pick for more future picks for this upcoming draft & next year's. Start getting younger.

Best player available. We have too many needs to risk drafting for a specific need. That said, if you truly thought there was a franchise QB who could lead you to a Super Bowl, you'd be crazy to pass him up. Those are hard to come by.

If it happens, it's likely to be for only a few spots like say Dallas wanting to move from 12 to 9 for Jeanty.
If Carter Tmac and Graham are gone and Dallas is willing to give up this years first, next years first and this years second, I say yes.

For every one of you saying trade back, give an example, trade back what for what pick/picks?
That's the thing with trade backs, we can't just decide to trade back. Take and make all the phone calls you want, if no one wants to trade up, we can't trade back. The real question is how appealing is the 9th pick? And really how much value will teams be willing to give up?

oh my bad, I thought you meant a TE. I'd be looking at edge rushers of all size and considering a scheme switch to get quicker/athletic on the edge. The teams that stop the run the best currently aren't the guys these huge DE's on the edge 6'5 270 lbs etc. It's the teams that have the smaller guys 6'4 255 etc that are playing 3/4 defense that are stopping these zone schemes because they flow easier and have more athleticism on the field.
Tell em EJ, bring back my 3-4 defense!!!!!!!!

It’s not so much the 3-4 as I’d like them to look at different body types for the edge rushers. There are multiple guys we’ve missed out on or not considered drafting because they didn’t fit our prototype.

We know the range for them is somewhere around 6’3-6’5 260-280.

8 of the top 25 Pass Rushers are under 255 lbs. Meaning you don’t need to draft the behemoth DE’s high in the 1st round to find a productive or talented player.

I guess what I am not understanding is what is so important about building your team in a certain order? When did this become a thing?

You build your team in the manner in which the BPA chips fall. You don’t force it.
You build your OL1st because if you draft skill players 1st it's almost impossible for them to succeed with a bad OL. If you build a great OL you can get by with less than great skilled players until you get them.

You build your DL 1st because you want to stop the run 1st and one of the best pass defenses is a good pass rush. Also the best DB is limited with no pass rush
