With the 9th Pick in the 2025 draft, who should the Saints select? (merged) (23 Viewers)

I dont know as much as many here, but ive seen it stated (and it makes sense) that big NT/0-tech DTs should not be drafted in the first round, especially early in the first.

The reasoning is that teams spend ~70% of downs in nickel or some other pass defense set up. Your big run stopping DT would normally be on the bench for most of those plays.

The reasoning seems sound to me that any player you draft that early, especially top 10, should be a player you expect to be on the field for almost all the snaps.

Also have read that most good NFL big run stopping DTs are usually available on day two and sometimes early day three in deeper drafts.
Bresee is only 15 lbs heavier than Cameron Jordan...to me he is a glorified DE. If he can drop 20 lbs he could prolly be the Will Smith, a DE that play the outside for screens and attack the QB. But I'm not cool with a DT only playing passing downs when drafted 1st round. We need him all downs that's just me tho. Aaron Donald and Warren Sapp and Gilbert Brown types....I just don't see Mason Graham being that DT.

But whatever it's his job to prove the doubter wrong....but if we get another DT that is like Bresee Imma scream

Problem with Bresee was in the nickel he was being used as a NT so can Jordan could kick inside to 3tech. I think Bresee it fine as a DT but has to stay at 3tech, I also agree with you that in the base formation he could be used as a giant strong side defensive end who kicks to 3tech in the nickel. I really like that idea. Our dline would be mammoth in the base.

Naw get his fat skinny rear end at DE and get some big boys in the middle.

Bresee would kill at DE. He is a pass rushing specialist and with his agility he can eat a screen alive....but I'd run the ball up his rear end every chance I get cause he does not great snap count instincts for run plays. He was literally getting blown off the ball and makes a tackle 5 yards deep. He got a gain weight half fat and half muscle if he wants to dominate the interior line. He is just too slim in my opinion.

If the draft goes like this I would take Will Campbell & plug him as the starting LG...

Dont know much about Starks, but we absolutely do need a safety or two. In everything Im reading, he's a top 10 talent and all the other safeties are day two guys and 3rd round grade at that. Howden has turned out to be more of a special team level guy that can fill in (often poorly) in a pinch.

If you can add an elite player at any position, you should probably do that. And try to do it again in the 2nd tound and again next year and so on. Three years down the road you have several elite players spread out across your roster. Right now I'm not sure we have any of those.

There are other good S in the draft.
If Will Harris leaves as a UFA, I agree with you that we will need to sign or draft 2 S for 2025.

I just don't like drafting a S with the 9th pick in the draft...
Will Campbell is considered a top 5 pick if he drops to us at 9, he will be the BPA.
And we have to stop the mad dash to the QB from the middle of our OL.
Campbell would solve our OL problems.

My personal opinion is that:

Nick Emmanwori 2024 Stats
13 games: 88 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 6 passes defended, 4 interceptions

will be the best S out of the 2025 draft class.

Right now he is considered a late 1st round pick or a 2nd round pick.
If you want him you trade back in the draft.

Mason Graham is a monster and will be long gone by the time we draft. You see I saw this happening, alot of people on here rooting for us to win more games when the season was lost, now only if we lost 1 less game, and then maybe.
