Woodford Reserve or Maker's Mark? (1 Viewer)

I have. It's decent. About the same quality as Maker's. I just thought the bottle was cool.

heh....the bottle is what caught my attention.....and i like maker's so i might give it a day in court

I say either and a whole heck of a lot of it.

has anyone tried bulliet??? i saw it at the store once and was curious....

It's alright. The best part is the bottle. Good sweetness up front, but finishes a little spicy and rough around the edges. Decent for the price.

I'll say it again, Pappy Van Winkle's dominates. 20 yr. aged Bourbon Whiskey. $102 per bottle is the best price I've found, and it's worth every penny. The 23 yr. is $364 a bottle. I never tried it, but will one day.

Maker's, Woodford, and Knob Creek are all very good for the price... I find Knob Creek a little bit spicier (those tobacco notes the wine snobs talk about)... A suggestion for the drinkers at the pub: order it neat with a side rocks glass of ice... drop a cube or two in to cool it off... not so watered down, and not so harsh that it tastes like you're drinking it in the car outside the VFW hall waiting for the Cro-Mags to start their set... wait, where was I going with that?

PS- As far as Crown goes, just save some money and drink Jim Beam Rye (in the purty yellow bottle) or Seagrams 7... Rye is rye is rye...

Yeah, I'm with you, but it's not fair to bring into a conversation with the likes of Maker's and Knob Creek. We're talking $25 vs. $100. Another great bottle is Hirsch 16. For a more value minded Van Winkle, don't pass up the Van Winkle Family Reserve 12 Yr Lot B. If you can find it, buy it. One of my favorite bourbons under $50.

I've got a couple bottles of the 23 year old. One is an official bottling, can't remember which off hand. It's very good, but not $230 good. A little heavy handed on the oak/charring. I have another 23 year old that was an unfiltered, single barrel offering bottled for the members over at www.straightbourbon.com. This was available for $150 and is a spectacular whiskey. I've only tasted it twice though as I can't exactly buy more. :)

just finished my 1st bottle of woodford, best bourbon I've ever had.

Surprised how smooth it was for being 90 proof

Anything but a Brown-Forman product. I wouldn't give the Brown Family
a cent for a dying breath.

Personally, I'd rather give my $ and my tastebuds to Four Roses.
They're owned by the Japanese now, but the Japanese have the
sense not to change the recipe. Small batch, 100% recommended.

Four Roses Bourbon

Jim Beam's Knob Creek ain't bad, 'neither.

Personally, Maker's Mark is pretty gauche, but their
distillery tour is the best in Kentucky.

this is a three year old thread. It took you that long?!?!?!?

...

Pffft. What a difference three years makes. A month ago I found the first bottle I've been able to find in about a year. $70 (at a very reasonably priced store). The store had just gotten its yearly shipment in - four bottles. One was left. Yes, I bought it.

Maker's 46 is great for the price. I'm also working a lovely bottle of Jefferson's Reserve (nice caramel flavor), an 18 year old Elijah Craig (so smooth, it's practically cognac) and a little bit left of Van Winkle 10 and 15. But nothing beats the :worthy: Van Winkle 12.

No kidding. I just bought my yearly bottle and was shocked at the price. Still one of my favorite whiskeys. It's better than the Pappy 15, IMO. The 20 year is still king. My standard shelf bourbon is still Eagle Rare Single Barrel though. I also really enjoy Evan Williams Single Barrel. Both are exceptional values.

I cannot stand Woodford. It tastes like straw covered in piss to me. Maker's is nice, but if you want to go in the Woodford price range, I'd recommend Jefferson's Reserve or Blanton's instead. Vastly better than Woodford, imo.

I snickered at Eeyore's suggestion that WR tastes better after a month. How in the hell am I supposed to participate in that experiment? That's be a mighty big bottle if it was to last a month.

Then OP steps in and bumps this thread with that post?

You people don't drink enough...

I still enjoy a nice bourbon now and then, but the last couple years my tastes have leaned more towards scotch. I have no bourbon in the house right now, but that will soon be remedied. I'm thinking MM46 which has made original MM a memory for just $10 more.
