I have a dumb question for u guys with Cox internet. Today, I am going to be turning in my Cox DVR and cancelling my cable tv with them. I am going to keep their Premier internet service though. My question is will any of my Roku channels that require a provider login be affected? My email address and password will still b the same. Thanks for any help!!

Yeah, they'll be affected. The provider logins are for cable customers only. So if you don't have a subscription to a TV service, it shouldn't work. You will need to either use someone else's login or sign up with a service like Sling.

You will still get networks streamed over the Net like ESPN 3 . However you will need either Sling or Vue to get the ESPN networks(ESPN,ESPN2,FS1 etc.) For me I just went with Sling and so far so good. I lower my bill by $71.25. Sling has deals such as a free Apple TV of Roku for 3 months prepay. Basically they are giving it to you for free(Streaming device). Sling only $19.99 a month for the basic package which includes ESPN1&2.

You can also use the SlingTV and Vue login credentials to access many TV apps, including ESPN3.

HBO Now is awesome. Everything they have, right there. Simple to use. I have it, I love it

I second the HBO Go awesomeness. My Directv contract is soon ending, and therefore I'll be heading toward HBO Now.

Any advice on NFL game streaming? I'll be out of the New Orleans area, so I won't be able to watch Saints game using a local antenna. I don't mind watching the games a day or two late. Does anyone have any experience with NFL Game Pass app?

I'm about to cut most of the cord.
I'm about to sign up for the PlayStation Vue. I can't cut it 100% yet, because there are some things I will require that Vue or sling can't get me. which mostly is local stuff. EATEL has a basic package for $20. I will eventually get a good outdoor antenna and a standalone DVR to take care of this issue.
I can handle going back and forth between different apps/streaming sites instead, but my wife will struggle. I have to bring her in slowly. after about 6 months, I expect to be cord free.

question: will the 50 mbps internet be sufficient to stream Vue on 4 devices if needed. 90% of the time I wouldn't have more than 2. but on rare occasions, it could be 4.

I called in this week to do the same thing. They offered to let me keep the bundled price for the Internet and gave me the basic cable package with the minibox for nothing extra.

You fell for it.

Report: ESPN to sell an over the top streaming service to consumers

It appears that ESPN will be joining the CBS’s, HBO’s and Showtime’s in selling an over the top streaming service directly to consumers. However, unlike CBS and Showtime, this ESPN OTT service won’t the linear channel that is seen on WatchESPN. According to The Information, this service will not include its major sports packages like Monday Night Football or MLB.

Instead, The Information says what will be included will most likely offer “niche leagues” and perhaps some college sports. What exact niche leagues and sports will be offered isn’t known, however, one thing is for sure. ESPN will not put its linear channels on the service knowing that it would alienate its cable and satellite partners. But ESPN will continue to be part of “skinny bundles” like Sling TV which is offered by Dish and Verizon’s package.

ESPN hopes that it will be able to reach audiences that don’t subscribe to cable and satellite and also discover what events in this package will work and what won’t.

ESPN has been hurt by cord cutting and Disney CEO Robert Iger hinted last month that an OTT package might be in the works.

So if The Information is true, then this package (we’ll call it ESPN Lite) could be the offering that Iger was referring to when he discussed this with investors. So if this is the OTT streaming service offering niche leagues and perhaps college Olympic sports, then one would have to imagine the per month price to be lower than if the Worldwide Leader came out with a package that included its linear television feeds.

The only ESPN I care to watch is MNF. And even that I can live without if the Saints aren't playing. And when they are, I can catch it OTA. I have no sympathy for ESPN. They sold their soul a long time ago and are reaping the rewards. Eat it. I hope they fail utterly and completely so we don't have to witness that sort of crap again.

You can't talk about The Mouse like that. He's bound to kick your *** for it...
