Should have kept Jameis (1 Viewer)

The disregarding the salary cap experiment is over. Jameis isn't really an upgrade, but I do agree we should have kept him and cleaned up our finances after year one of Dennis Allen. Now we're going to be damn near 80 million over for next year with no real plan to turn this around. To complicate matters, Loomis has a life time contract and we're still kicking the can down the road. Doesn't look good at all. A 3 year rebuild that we could have been coming out of next year is now looking about 5 years or more.

6 years and counting

While the above argument could be made to have stuck with JW or any qb on the roster post Brees in order to clean cap and lower age of roster

jW wouldn’t be the answer at qb

Carr will be done with his contract before other issues are resolved

So what? Happens in almost every game, to lots of QBs..
I've said this years ago and it still hold true. A lot of analysis is not necessarily based on the "what" but on the "who." And based off the "who" is how we analyze the "what."

The crazy thing is this game dispelled everything that folks on this board try to

-"Can't read pre-snap." - Their offense is based on determining where to go with the ball pre-snap
-"Can process" - Although this has been debunked plenty of times, the offense doesn't carry traditional progressions but is "read and react" based on the route concepts and defense
-"He can't diagnose a blitz" - He killed the Ravens when they blitzed, recognizing and making checks at the line
-"He holds the ball too long" - He had the 2nd lowest snap to throw time this week while being near the top of the league in aDOT, which again, kills the narratives of bullet points 1 and 2.

The fact that out of 41 attempts, more time spent discussing 3-5 bad passes should tell anyone how Jameis is "evaluated."

One thing that's always bugged me about the games that Taysom started at QB: they never really had him do many designed rollouts. Not as often as they should've with his mobility. Same with Jameis. He's historically one of the greats outside the pocket. It's like no matter the coaching staff, they have no idea how to play to the strengths of any QB not named Drew Brees.

I know, I know, the W-L record says different. It's just one of my weird hangups.

Jameis is who is he is and the smartest evaluators on the planet in this game agree, obviously.

Solid backup. That’s what he is. A journeyman backup at this juncture and there’s nothing wrong with that. He will make a lot of money, or continue to make a lot of money doing that. He’s the best number 3 in the league for sure, which I didn’t understand him being the 3 there.

What are these evaluators' credentials?

Former 2x MVP and Super Bowl winning QB with a bust in Canton who breaks down film on a daily basis

Evaluators who has probably never played the position, let alone sport.

Even if he’s the 32nd best QB in the league and he’s getting up there in age, is that a situation you really want?

Stans gonna stan.

The evaluators that actually matter work for NFL teams and not a single one of them deemed this player a starter. Cold, hard empirical evidence beats what you want to be true 100% of the time.

He is 3 years older than Drew was when he signed here and he gave us 15 years
I know you did not just compare Winston to Drew…My point is, if you settle for the 28 or 32nd ranked QB, it’s a situation you’re trying to get out of. If Carr started performing in the same tier as a guy like Flacco, we would all be rooting to get out of that situation.
