Mine cost about 8K as well.Companies are ripping people off on whole home generators. My brother got one installed a year before Ida and it cost him $8,000. I called last year about getting one and the lowest estimate I got was $20,000.

Also, New Orleans has installed high pressure gas lines since Katrina so natural gas shouldn't be an issue.

These storms must feel trapped once they get in the GoM. It's like a wild animal that suddenly finds itself in someone's house and can't find it's way out. It goes crazy and busts everything up trying to get out.

I went solar with battery backup. Also bought a mini-split for my office that is 25 seer. The solar currently produce about 3x more power than my house can use and I don't have enough storage. When the next generation of EV's start hitting I will buy my wife an EV that can also run the house and use it as secondary battery supply. This way I'll be good for a few days with no sun and then can run the central air at night. It's the more expensive option in the short term but my electricity bill is zero, my wife's gas usage will be zero, wont cost anything to charge the car and will have battery backup. Plus with tax incentives and backing out the $13k a home generator would have cost it suddenly wasn't that expensive. So far I've saved $6k in energy bills and haven't had to fire up a generator once.
Apparently China has figured out how to print solar panels like a newspaper which should make solar much cheaper.
NHC? Didn’t Bruce Katz prove them wrong? Anyway the models still don’t agree. Here is where it will start so we will just put a circle around it. I’ll wait for Katz’s model.
