Allen better not mess around with naming Rattler QB#2 (2 Viewers)

I will never understand why this is such a big deal to fans. It's crazy! We have spent more time this off season discussing what Allen better do with the number 2 QB spot than anything else.

We are keeping both, it does not matter who gets the number 2 nod. If and when this bad OL gets Carr hurt, then we can worry about it. Rattler could be the number 3 and Carr get hurt in week 8, Rattler in those 8 weeks could make up the difference and then be the number 2. Rattler could be the number 2 and regress and be the 3.

I have given Allen hell over the last year, but this just seems like a lot of people looking for a reason to pile on. Spencer looks more like a NFL QB than Jake has yet in his career and Spencer certainly is more athletic with the ball in his hands which is valuable with a terrible OL like we have. So, I think he should be the number 2, but it isn't the end of the world regardless and unless Carr gets hurt or is just awful you would not see Spencer as a starter here until the season after next.
If Carr has to miss any games due to injury, I think Kubiak will give Hill a lot more snaps at QB to take pressure off of either Haener or Rattler. Hill at QB in a bootleg & rollout based offense would put a lot of pressure on the defense. Making the defense prepare for Hill as a run pass option QB and moving all across the alignment when either Haener or Rattler is at QB would put a lot of pressure on defenses and take a lot of pressure off of the two young and inexperienced QB's.

Neither Haener or Rattler has taken a single snap against a defense full of starters that have game planned and running complex and confusing schemes. We won't know how Haener or Rattler would do against that. Preseason is a mirage when it comes to starting against another team's best starters throwing everything they can at you. That's why a lot of QB's look great in preseason, but struggle a lot during the regular season.

The only QB on the roster behind Carr who has had success as a QB during the regular season is Hill and I think Kubiak knows and values that.

I hope DA picks the right guy, because Carr takes a lot of hard hits and our No2 will get a lot of snaps over a 17 game season.

D/A should do the smart thing if it’s that close, let the team take a vote on it!

I think you can make a fair argument that neither is more than a developmental QB at this point, suggesting you cut one and sign a vet back up.

Not what I'd hope happens, but I can see the argument.

I'm pretty sure that the Saints will enter 2024 with Carr as the starter and Haener/Rattler as the backups with Taysom Hill as the insurance policy.

I don't see any scenario where the Saints cut one of the younger QBs and bring in a veteran backup.

My reasons why not.

1. Both young QBs show promise and have been with the team the entire offseason through OTAs, Mini Camp, Training Camp, and Pre-Season in this system.

2. Should Carr get injured the Saints can play either or both of the young QBs. Unless Carr is out for an extended period of time, they will be office temps anyway.

3. Hill would see extra QB snaps if Carr were to go out, whether short term or long term. He may be named the starter should both of the young guys struggle.

4. Cutting either one of the young QBs would expose them to waivers which they could get claimed elsewhere not giving the Saints a chance to develop on the PS.

5. A veteran QB that would be available at this point may not be better than any of the above and would take several weeks to get up to speed with the system.

No Way!

Valid points and a fair analysis.

You had me until this.

What if the 20% of evidence consisted of having the murder weapon as evidence with fingerprints and dna of the accussed on it, along with 10 collaborating eye witnesses and multi videos of the crime in its entireity that all confirm that the person charged is guilty?
Neither Haener nor Rattler have faced a team playing all of their best defense players and game planning their defense to do their best to confuse and harass the QB.

There's a reason a lot of QB's, especially backup QB's, look great in preseason games and not so great in regular season games.

Neither Haener nor Rattler have proven anything about how they would do against a starting defense that has game planned. That's why coaches don't make their decisions just on the performance outcomes during preseason. There's a reason coaches are coaches and fans are fans. The worst coach can out coach any fan 9 out of 10 times. It's a hard pill for a lot of fans to swallow, but it's the truth.

AND WAS STILL OUT-PLAYED.
What matters most to me is the output. The team has scored 37 points with Rattler and only 7 points with Haener. The team simply looks a lot quicker when Rattler is playing. Lastly, THE TEAM seem to play better and have more confidence in Rattler. Just my observation of course.
Didn't you have a similar observation about Winston?

Yes, that coach. The same one who made A, B, C to Z decisions that didn't turn out well, or that you disagree with. The same coach who I myself have stated on here that I think should be replaced.

That guy STILL knows more about head coaching in the NFL and more about the actual team than ANYONE on this board, sitting on your little couch, watching a few preseason games, listening to your little reports, and reading your little stories. As a fan, I can easily and readily admit that. It's pretty obvious.
LOL, calm down, dude.

This is the case with most bad teams. Good teams don't need a savior that isn't on the field.

All true. And just as you have stated, the coaches have been evaluating both Haener and Rattler the entire offseason, not just be preseason game performances.

There's a reason coaches are coaches and fans are fans. The worst coach can out coach any fan 9 out of 10 times.

The 1 out of 10 times must be a reference to Haslet not playing Delhomme when Brooks was injured, only needing a single win down the stretch to make the playoffs.

Who knows. He may have gotten distracted by the Saintsations, clouding his judgement.

It's a hard pill for a lot of fans to swallow, but it's the truth.

The truth is that it was an easier one for SP to swallow than most Saints fans.

Coaches are mortal human beings who make their share of mistakes in life, and sometimes bad judgement decisions in football games.

Nobody goes through life undefeated.
