Build the Saints' 3-4 Defense (17 Viewers)

For reference, here is how the Eagles interior defenders lined up with a hand in the dirt throughout the regular season:

And here are the edge defenders:

The Eagles rarely had a player lined up as a 5-tech, and Jalen Carter had the most snaps from that alignment (23). By comparison, they lined players up as a 4- or 4i nearly seven times as often.
Looks like from the snap count, which I’m sure the majority of came from the nickel, they had for the majority of the time Milton running the 2i (basically a 1 tech), Carter at 3, and both edges wide 9. Would love to see their snap count totals out of the base formation only.

I'll pull it later, but just looking at total snaps regardless of alignment, Jalen Carter had the most snaps from a base 3-4 personnel grouping. It was only 83 snaps all season, or roughly five per game.

By chance, first play of the season was in base. All three DL line up inside the tackles at the snap.

Yeah it’s a 3-4 under. I see a 1 tech 3 tech and 2 wide 9s. Basically the exact defense I’d want us to run

Davis at the 1, Milton at the 5 and Carter at the 3, just as I expected
The source I pull from lists them as a 1, 4i, and 3, so the stats I posted earlier are based on where the players are when the ball is snapped.

I mean it sure looks like a 5 tech to me, he’s in the gap, 4i would be heads up shaded slightly inside, but we’re splitting hairs.

Nickel is base now, but in actual base i like seeing what Cam can do as a 3-4 edge even with limited snaps. And Demario having a more penetrating role could be really effective. But we need more linebackers.

I wouldn’t play Granderson as a 3-4 edge.

Remember Chase young could come back also. I like him as a 5 tech bc he sheds well.

Bresee is mostly a nickel DT. Just take him off the field against base personnel.

Demario can go against OT’s and i would like to see him play edge in a 3-4.

Here are the snap counts for base, they don't really have anyone playing 5-tech consistently.

Bresee will be obliterated in a 3-4.

I feel like y'all love this player has gone to y'all's head. We seen him get abused on one on one plays too much during the run.

His strong suits are only passing downs or subpar olines.

He needs to be in a 4-3 system

I agree that a 4-3 3-tech is his natural spot. As far as success in a new scheme, it depends on what he is asked to do (one-gap versus two-gap) and on his alignment (how often will he get double teams). He could end up doing mostly the same things in a 3-4 one gap scheme that he has been doing in his time with the Saints.

Can you explain why Bresee playing 3tech in a 3-4 between a 5tech and a 1tech is harder than him playing 3 tech in a 4-3 between a 5tech and a 1tech?

I mean to an extent I guess but in a 3-4 under you have a 5 tech, 3, 1, and another 5/6, just like in a 4-3

I catch your drift though, but the differences are minimal, plus if there's 1 player I want getting double teamed, it is my NT to allow my playmaker pass rushers to get 1 on 1.
Ridgeway is built to be a 34 NT imo
