Even though specifics are scarce, I'm willing to bet 5G was/is shaping up to be every bit the disaster it seemed like it was going to be, and the rumors that even DiDio was getting cold feet about it probably signalled internal conflict at the company and the higher ups finally pulled the trigger to get rid of him because of it. DiDio just had lots of terrible ideas and was always given few reign despite that. Maybe he finally had an idea so bad the powers that be had to step in...
As to Harras, he was never more than DiDio's puppet. He was arguably the least powerful EiC in the history of the industry. I can't see him sticking around long with his overlord gone.
Now, where they go from here is crucial.
At this point, we don't know what's going to happen. We won't see the effect of DiDio being gone for a few months at a minimum.Could it be that the uproar over 5G was so strong that they just scrap it completely? Please?
Maybe Snyder's got enough sense to realize that Marvel already tried this and failed miserably? If so, and his influence is that significant, then perhaps that's a good thing. At this point, we don't know what's going to happen. I don't typically quote Bleeding Cool, but they broke the story. They're claiming Scott Snyder was the major pushback against 5G and that, along with the recent editorial departures led to DiDio's firing. It's quite concerning if a single writer have that much influence.

AgreedI'm sure we'll get more in the coming days. DiDio hasn't been shy about talking to Rich Johnston in the past so it wouldn't shock me if his version of events is "leaked" to Bleeding Cool soon. As far the Snyder stuff, I'm going to assume they'd been looking for a reason to get rid of him and took the pushback+turnover+general skepticism over 5G as their chance. It's pretty telling that the praise he's getting from industry types at the moment amounts to "He's a really nice guy and he genuinely loves comics." I'm sure he is a nice guy and I'm sure he does love comics, but he was not a good publisher and he's been throwing random shirt against the wall to see what sticks for years, generally with diminishing returns.
I listened to his Youtube video on this. He sounds like he knows it all.Ethan Van Sciver? Really? Might as well believe Rob Liefeld in everything he says.
