What???!!! I walk a dog 4 times a day, with a mask on, and nobody bothers us, or comes near us. If we see someone, I just wave, say hi & keep walking.

Why can’t your daughter go out walking with her buddies, with a mask on, and use social distancing????!!!!

Plus, we have a Gazebo with a fire pit, in the back yard, so I am working outside all day long, getting some fresh air.

BobE posted a great pic of his mom, with her buddies all sitting outside, 6-10 feet apart, yakking away and having a great time. 😍

There has got to be a million creative ways for your daughter to get outside & not be so down in the dumps.👍

Yeah...we do everything possible for our children to have fulfilling lives. There is no substitute for human interaction.

Well said. I try to take my kids (teenagers) out with me when I need to make a quick run to the store or drop my daughter off at work. We walk the dog and exercise here at home. The kids are talking with their friends and playing games as well as school work on the computer.

Honestly, our family is doing pretty well staying at home so far.

Many people do not have the means to keep their kids home year around. And I don't personally think that it is healthy for kids to be isolated that long. My kids will be back to school in the Fall.

To each his own then. I disagree with your approach. Don't think we're gonna agree on this. Best of luck to you.

Cases slightly up in Louisiana. The stay home has to be extended at least until May 15 huh?

The curve has been pretty well flattened in LA, especially compared to neighboring states. I think JBE will announce the start of phased re-opening this afternoon, likely to begin May 1.

I've been coming into the office as needed, usually a couple times a week. Today there were signs stating no one would be admitted into the building without a face covering. This is the way to do it -- no government enforced mandates are necessary, we simply need businesses to not allow people to enter without them.

The dude essentially said he would happily sacrifice his grandfather for his kids being able to go out and socialize and people kept engaging him like that insanity was OK for four or so pages. Nothing about what he said was OK and the normalization of it isn't OK, either.

I don't think he said anything even remotely close to that. I think he has intelligently and respectfully presented a point of view that goes against the prevailing currents in this thread. I think he's made some good points and some incorrect ones, but I think he's done it gracefully and in a way that adds to the conversation. I appreciate his additions to this thread.

ETA: I guess Sammy did say something like that that I missed. Either way, my point remains.

One of the nation's top meat companies has issued a warning that there could be a shortage at grocery stores nationwide due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a full page ad that appeared in Sunday's edition of The New York Times, the chairman of the board of Tyson Foods, John H. Tyson, wrote that "the food supply chain is breaking."

The company's ominous message came after it temporarily closed a pork processing plant in Waterloo, Iowa, on April 22. More than 180 coronavirus infections had been linked to the plant, and hundreds of employees weren't going to work out of fear of getting sick, NBC News reported. The plant accounted for almost 4% of U.S. pork processing capacity, according to the National Pork Board.

There will be limited supply of our products available in grocery stores until we are able to reopen our facilities that are currently closed," Tyson wrote in the ad.

On Monday, a worker from the Iowa Tyson plant (whose identity was concealed) spoke with NBC's Kerry Sanders on TODAY about the conditions that led to the shutdown.

"Ambulances start coming to our plant. People start being carried out of there, and so we were always asking our supervisors basically what is it that's going on here," the employee said. "They didn't have enough material, masks and things like that, to provide to us, so they would start giving us different types of rags and stuff that they had ... washed and cleaned.".................

If you have kids, how are they isolated? They have each other.

I agree with most of that. He did say that about the grandparents though. He even admitted it was a callous thing to say. But that could be my parents who recently turned 70. So no, I'm not sacrificing my parents so that mine or anyone else's kids can have a social life. Screw that.

And to be sure, my kids have the advantage of social media apps. So in reality, their social life hasn't really changed all that much. The lack of physically being with other friends is a small sacrifice to make if it keeps us safe long enough to weather this thing.

I must have missed that one.

I would disagree with that take, then (despite what I said about Boomers in the other thread.. lol). But I think the @ post towards Sammy was still unnecessary and counterproductive. I think I'll just grow my ignore list to 3 today. :winkthumb:
