Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (2 Viewers)

Also, do I need a wireless SSDD (~1 -2 TB)? what's a NAS?

I think you've conflated "wireless SSID" with "SSD" (abbreviation for "solid state drive").

An SSID is the name you give your wireless network.

An SSD is a solid state drive, which is basically a way faster hard drive due to a lack of moving parts like in a traditional IDE drive. They are the future, there will be fewer and fewer computers made with anything but SSDs as we move forward. If you've never used one, the performance gains are truly impressive, and the technology keeps getting better and faster.

That said, for streaming media across the home, or DVR work, you're not going to see the benefits of an SSD unless maybe you've got 4 or 5 streams running off the same SSD, and even then I'm not sure it would be a problem (though I admittedly haven't tried). The benefits of an SSD (and they are huge) are reduced load times for applications, but that's just not a big deal for a media server, because unless you're just severely underpowered, an IDE drive can handle serving up a media file just fine.

Thanks Brandon,
Yeah, I'm not a complete tech noob, used to work in the industry, just been out of the tech industry for a few years and really didn't keep up. It will leave you behind quickly, lol. I do have a new 2 in 1 that I bought about 2 months ago with an ssd, and wow it is light speed compared to my old hard drive unit.

Just started Kodi on my pc and will add it to a fire stick soon. So I'm pretty much covered with VUE, two mohu leafs, and now Kodi. No longer need Hulu Plus. So altogether for me monthly thats about $102 per month compared to the $170 I was paying years ago.

Had a chance to watch a very recent movie via Kodi (will be going to see it at the theater). Hopefully I don't get one of those nasty cease and desist emails from the movie house via Cox about pirating.

That I know of you shouldn't get one. I think this is just streaming and not actually downloading the movie.

Maybe somebody else can say if this is true or not but that is what i know.

Yeah, hitting the drive by streaming sites won't get you a ticket. Possession and dissemination however will. So stay away from downloading and torrenting without proper protection.

I have been reading this thread and I have a few questions. But first a little background. I have CABLEONE and pay approx. $266/month for 150 channels, phone and Internet (150Mbps). WAY TOO MUCH. I know I can reduce that bill by a great deal by subscribing to PlayStation Vue . My questions are:
  • We have the PS4 in the den connected to the Television via HDMI cable how do I connect the other 3 sets in various rooms to get PlayStation vue channels? Do I need to purchase ROKU or similar and install the box on each additional set?
  • If I need to purchase what route is suggested?

From what I know, you can basically purchase any streaming device, as long as it supports PS Vue, that you want for the other TV's and add the PS Vue app onto each one and log in with your account. If it was me, I would get a few Roku or Amazon sticks for the other TV's. That would be the most economical. Just my opinion.

This is the way to go. I know for certain you can put Vue on the Fire Stick, as I do in my bedroom, but I'm not certain about the Roku.

Have Roku (3 of them), Fire Tv (1) Firestick (3) and a useless chromecast. PSVUE is great.

Yes, I have PS Vue on a Roku stick.

Thanks for the info....I will look into the Roku Express and or the Roku Stick. Any suggestions on who may have the best price?

If all you're watching is Netflix or Hulu, I think the Chromecast is faster than the Firestick. Navigating on your phone and casting it is faster than the Firestick. And it's not even really close.

Which is why I'm disappointed still with the Chromecast. Newer TVs these days come with Netflix and Hulu preinstalled. The Chromecast sucks at everything else, especially Sling.
