Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (2 Viewers)

They'll have upgraded the limits by then. I've been on the ultimate tier for a while and they upgrade speeds and data caps just about every year or so.

You read that where? No mention of that from COX. Sure you can upgrade but not without a charge.

It's been my experience over the last 10 years. They are constantly upgrading. The data limits have already been in place, though I'm not sure how they have enforced them since I've never run afoul. I'm not concerned at this point as Cox is regularly upgrading both data speed and data limits for their tiers.

So for those of you that have tried both (or anyone that feels strongly about one), Sling vs. Playstation Vue, which do you prefer and why?
SlingTV using FireTV (box) and landline internet connection.

I haven't had the performance issues that many have stated here since SlingTV first rolled out. This past week they have an option on the interface to display a "Guide" that is more like Vue's and a cable provider. For me it's the lower cost that is the deciding factor. I don't use DVR and only need a couple channels.

This may already be discussed in the thread but it's long and I'm lazy.

As of this morning my family has officially cut the cord. I have everything set up, a few streaming services etc. and we are good.

One question, can you watch HBO shows live via HBO Now? The only thing I really care about here is GoT. Will I be able to watch them live or will I have to wait until the next day? I looked around in the app and I don't see a Watch Live option.

All you need is internet for HBO and/ or Showtime live. $9.99 a month. 1st month is free.

To answer you question, I don't think you can watch anything live on HBO Now. It's specifically an On Demand Streaming service. But last year they did release a few episodes of GoT on HBO Now before they aired on HBO. You'll have get another service to watch it live or wait a day. Although I believe that was just a promotional thing for HBO Now.

Some streaming services, like Vue, will allow you to buy it as an add-on if you don't purchase it directly from HBO.

Wait, what? We have Vue. My wife set all this up so I really didn't know. Like most other things in our life I just pay the bill. I thought I needed HBO Now, too.

Edit: Just checked and yep, I can add HBO streaming to Vue and have access to HBO Now through it.

Thanks everyone! I'm clueless, so I'm sure I'll have more dumb questions later. :hihi:

To be fair, the plethora of service providers/platforms and the different kinds of services they provide (and certain, but not always universal, redundancies and lapovers in those services) has made all of this a bit more complicated than it was a few years ago when it was basically "I got rid of cable/satellite and just use Netflix and Hulu."
