Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (2 Viewers)

I'm sure the Carr debate will rage on, but it will be a relief to know he's signed when it's officially announced. I'm just ready for this bit to be over, lol.
I'm with ya Dave!

Not sure how I feel about DC4...I guess the $$$ and contract will determine that for me. He could be our franchise QB for the next 4-10 seasons; or he could be a younger Andy Dalton....sufficient, but nothing special....whose contract bogs us down in mediocrity for the duration of his contract; preventing us from "fixing" the situation because of finances.

If he's a member of the B&G nation, I'll get my head in the right place to be ALL IN for the former situation. But for those of us who are seemingly celebrating already.....have we learned NOTHING from the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes? They aren't a Saint until the ink is on the paper!

Yup, when the ink is dried, only then will I be really relieved. :hihi:

If this ends like the Watson trade did, I’m going into hibernation the next time that we get mentioned as being close on a big QB acquisition. Wake me up when we get there.
It's all about who can give him the most guarantee money.

It's hard to imagine it being us.

So we’ve now recruited our second starting QB from the Raiders, following in the footsteps of Kenny Stabler. Hopefully Carr’s tenure is much longer and more productive.

Overall, signing Carr is the most logical decision and it’s hardly surprising given that this coaching staff doesn’t have the luxury of developing a QB because the fans will not tolerate another underwhelming season. Statistically speaking, Carr is a safer bet than tanking for a pick and running the risk that we choose the wrong guy and spend years on the QB carousel like Cleveland and the Jets too, noting that the majority of first round QBs are busts.

However, Carr’s salary will be expensive, his ceiling to date has been B+ and he joins an offence that was thoroughly uninspiring in 2022. I hope he can lift this offence up rather than PC dragging Carr down to his level. If it doesn’t pan out, it will be a costly mistake. Here’s hoping that it does.

Really happy we’re getting him.

Still a poor, desperate last-ditch move by his agent (probably) to make it seem like he wanted to be somewhere else.

Let’s get it.

If Carr doesn't come here, it's becoming clear all hope will be lost for next season. People are already in their feelings over the possibility of not signing him.
Nah, not for me. I’ll lean on the “we dodged a bullet narrative if it’s true or not“. Let’s be real, the ultimate QB for any team needing a QB that wants to win now. A mid 20s age, cocky/arrogant on the field guy that can make all of the throws. Which the team loves to see because they believe in him. (To be honest, JW exudes this leadship. Every time I hear JW speak, I’m thinking damn, he’s got that ”it” leadership. He just can’t stay on the field. And when you play 17 games, it’s important to be on the field. Anyway, an available Qb that checks all of the boxes, and that we can afford is Baker Mayfield. Scream and holler all you want. This guy has the highest ceiling of the QBs that we can afford. In the draft I see a couple legit options, Hooker or Stetson Bennet. Both are mid 20s and could be ready to play sooner than later. Before you scream and holler about Stetson, I heard him in an interview on “moving the chains” at the combine. First off, He’s embarrassed about his drunken event. However, he’s well grounded as a person and he’s got an analytical mind. His mind is so analytical that Pat Kirwan asked him if he’s ever talked to Drew Brees. (He hadnt) Kirwan went on to say that in his 25 years of interviewing QBs that he’s never said before that someone reminded him of Drew Bree’s. Kirwan understands how stupid it sounds to compare a kid to a HOFer. He went on and asked if he’s met with SP yet. (He hadn’t yet). Kirwan said, don’t worry I’ll be talking to SP soon and I’ll ask him if he’s met “baby Brees yet).

Not really worried about Carr money to be honest. The only thing that may hurt is his final year contract gonna be massive for us to offer him the best deal of the bunch.

I will support Carr but I’m not thrilled about him and if we don’t atleast make it to the second round I will be very critical honestly

Im not thrilled but i still wish him, DA and the entire team success. My instinct has been wrong about this team far more than right so im ready to support.
Let’s see what we do this draft I’m guessing dline rb te then safety

If Carr was really leaning towards the Jets, there should be reports of the Jets offering a contract and close to signing. He shouldn’t even have to lean towards them. He could just outright sign with them and avoid the drama for this long. Jets and Carr doesn’t appear to be close on a contract, just public negotiation tactics.
It could be the word “lean” means that their website hits and views have dipped lately. It’s time to throw a word out there that he cannot deny is false. Everyone leans. :)
