Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (2 Viewers)

I wasn't talking about playing in a small market or the ability to get a state farm commercial. I'm referring to the revenue you get from local commercials in the Tri-state area, like a local car dealership in Jersey or Connecticut. It's more potential money that negates any tax argument, 15 mil people versus less than 5 in southern Louisiana.
Local commercials don’t matter when you get those national ads.
And in this age, you can get those from any city.

It's all money. Plus, if you get national ads, that's national and local. I don't think it's a good fit, but who would have thought Eli would work in NYC?

I think the point is that you’re overestimating the gap between ad $ someone would get in NY vs NO. Especially after taxes.

If you’re the star QB and face of the franchise, it won’t matter where you are.

Yes, some players look at taxes, or their advisors look at taxes and advise the players. (I know many people on this board refuse to believe that it matters at all, but I bet that some players take that into consideration sometimes.) They also sometimes take into consideration, weather, cost of living in a new city, recreational opportunities, etc., and some look at moving closer to their hometown and family. It is not ALL about the most money for some players. Some players look at the quality of the roster and divisional opponents.

I don't think players make team decisions solely on the basis of state income tax, that would not make sense, but I do think "some" players might consider it along with all of the other factors that go into changing teams and locations. I think some look at housing options also when changing teams and locations, but they don't just look at housing. Some players might look at JUST the absolute most money on a contract and nothing else.
I wasn't suggesting taxes don't matter, just that it is not a deal breaker that you sign in NY or LA. Also, one of the main reasons you hire a financial advisor is to find tax breaks wherever you live.

Going to NY or LA only gets you so far, especially in the NFL.
It’s not like the NBA. Even if you’re just a casual fan, you know about every game.
Like I said earlier, Mahomes is becoming the face of the NFL from the franchise in Middle America.

Well, I think there's more money to be made in NY than in NOLA or Charlette, just at the baseline.

I think taxes come into play…how big of a role, I can’t say. But I do seem to remember hearing about athletes weighing those options when choosing their next team. Losing around $5-10 mill a year isn’t anything to sneeze at. But that’s probably not their chief consideration, tbh. Unless it’s their last big contract and they’re trying to get every dime they can while they can.

That is true in reference to Mahomes, and the same can be said for Rogers, but do we expect Carr to be on that tier? If I'm being objective, the Panthers may have a more attractive city and a new coach with a longer leash than Allen.

If Carr plays well yeah.
I’m just saying that no franchise is hindered by getting their players national ads like a franchise would if they’re in the NBA.
If the Saints play well next season, they’ll get flexed into national games later in the season and next.

As we speak, inside of Jets Hq:
Carr: “Look, I told the Saints that I’d give them a chance to match any offer”
Jets negotiator: “ok wait right here, let me go talk to my manager, (5 long mins later)
ok, he said guaranteed 45m for 3 years, but only if you sign today”
Carr: ”hmm, interesting, let me make a quick call“ “Da they’re offering me more than my last contract, 45m annually,”
DA: “ok, one second let me speak to my manger“.
”Mickey, the worse case scenario happened, he’s being offered more annually than his last contract“.
ML: “ok DA, let me speak to MY manager.
ML: “Hey Special Man, now what?”
Special Man: “Let ‘em have him”

We shall see soon enough. Although, I'm not sure what's to happen if the Jets put a major contract on the table, like 200 mil with 100+ guaranteed.

The Jets have one the best young running backs in the league. They were going to make the playoffs, before he went down. Hall was averaging almost 6 yards per carry, which is All-Pro numbers. Once he got injured, their whole season changed.

They’re a literally a QB away from being a solid team. I’ve wouldn’t be shocked if Carr went there too.

So they were 1 young RB away from being a great rushing team? Right, I guess the offensive line just wasn't good enough to block for the other guys......they averaged under 100 yds a game rushing for the season, a whopping 117 yards with said RB in the lineup which would put them at 19th in the NFL.....not exactly eye-popping.....the kid my turn out to be really good but the Jets offensive line .....is not.....things change though.....

The Jets run game is actually dang near equal to ours. They averaged 4.2 yards a carry while we averaged 4.3. We just ran the ball 60 more times than they did.

We were 19th in the NFL, ie: squarely in the bottom half.....though with us I don't think it's personnel as much as an incompetent offensive coaching staff.....
