Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (3 Viewers)

I mean…if I’m Carr, this is pretty insulting.

Saints need to make their best offer now. Let him know he’s their top priority and they’re not waiting for…darkness.

Said this yesterday, but this sounds more like an agent drumming up interest/leverage using media mouthpieces more than anything else.

For real, it looks like the Jets are using Carr to put pressure on the Packers and Rodgers. And Carr is using the Jets to put pressure on us to up our offer. Or maybe Carr is really cool with being plan B but I don't know... in his shoes I would like to feel wanted? How can you say you can win championships with him and you want to work with him but still chase a different guy?

Exactly.

We shouldn't be all that interested in saving his job. What does that really accomplish, get Dennis Allen a couple years worth of HC paychecks while we suffer through mediocre football 17 games a year. If he was a legendary/successful coach at one point and on a on a downturn, sure scratch-claw-bite your way to some level of success to keep him in house, but he's a bad head coach doing what bad head coaches do and we shouldn't allow him to prolong his bad head coaching career for the sake of prolonging his bad head coaching career.
Frankly, I don’t think that this team is a winner with Sean Payton. We were only competitive with the unique combination of a good QB, good HC, and good defense. I’m not completely convinced we have any of the above. Even if Allen was fired today, I still think we’d be looking at a lame duck coach unless we had a substantial QB upgrade, say Aaron Rodgers. I think we are 2-3 years away. It’s hard for me to root for someone to fail. I think if you hire someone, they should be given a fair shake. When we signed Allen we committed to him for 2 years. Who knows…the Saints could somehow overachieve. I’ve been a Saints fan long enough that they can do worse than Allen, and having Payton has blinded many to that.

I think the doubters are about to really see just how much control and influence Sean Payton had over this team and it's day to day inner workings. I know no one likes to lose but I'm more of the rip the band aid off quick kind of guy. I'd rather take our lumps this season then commit recourses (picks and money) to players that won't be here in the long run. I hope I'm wrong, as a fan I don't want to lose but Allen isn't what this or any team needs and it's going to be ugly before it gets better.

Neither the saints or jets have offered Carr what he wants. That is why he’s saying it will be a long process not because he just wants to see what else is out there. This was said numerous times on tv today. He should not be demanding 40 mill a year.

I want Carr. But I’m not sure if I want him because of talent or lack of better options.

We can’t afford to trade for AR or Lamar
We aren’t high enough in the draft for Young or Stroud.
IF the bears traded Fields I assume someone would offer more than we could.
Carr is the best free agent option.

Not going by this or any Twitter news but just my take.... I think the Jets give him the best offer and an upcoming team. They are well coached and have some talents. They were on a roll for a bit last year. I won't be shocked if he picked the Jets over us.
I agree with you on all points. We are not a team on the rise.

The fact that everything the Jets told Carr personally is leaking out in media outlets like that sounds like they or their media don’t actually believe he will sign with them. Looks like sideshow tactics with all that hype than legitimate pursuit. I don’t think a pro team in NY of all places has to put all of that out there to sign a QB if it’s legit.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. I’m not paying $40 million for an average QB. Just go with a low priced option and try to get a 3rd tier upside QB in the draft. It’s not likely going to result in fielding a competitive team this year…but I’m not convinced that’d happen with Carr either. I sort of wish we can just hit the reset button but unfortunately our dead money prevents that from happening for 1-2 years

I was super keen on derek carr. But as time goes on I'm coming around to just drafting a QB and fixing our cap (please don't reply with our cap isn't broken, not interested in that debate anymore)... and honestly it prob doesn't matter who we have at QB we are a chance to win the division regardless 😀

I'd only disagree that Carr is an average qb. Last season was his first where he was decidedly average, and there were issues that led to that beyond him.

If he's in the right situation, I think he's solidly a top 10 qb. I see people saying he's not going to be any better because of our coaching, but clearly, if DA has another poor season, then next year, you get a new coaching staff and hopefully someone who can get the most out of Carr.

Whether he's worth it is certainly debatable, but considering how hard it is to find a top shelf qb, I think you get one while you can rather than waiting for a rookie to pan out.
