did i hear mort say we are near a deal w/giants for shockey (1 Viewer)

I've never understood how a player is a reach 10 picks ahead of his 'projection'. If the coaches think he fits the system, and we can't trade down or know he won't be there when we pick again, how is that a reach? :dunno:

Because another team might give up a lot to move up 10 picks in the draft, whereas you could trade down, pick up what they're giving, and still draft the same guy. That's the only way it matters. If there's no one to trade down to, then you have to take the guy you want, reach or not.

Mort didn't say as much as we thought. All he said was that we had offered a second and that the Giants said no thanks. Then went on to talk about the Browns being so active. When they're 12-4 next year, we can remember this FO sitting on their hands and the Browns making all the moves.

I didn't hear that we were pushing very hard for him, nor did I hear any specific counter offers on our part.

I like the aggressiveness but they have Brady Quinn as their QB. He will be the next Rex.

what did mort say specifically? i don't have ESPN News, that's why i am so interested in the specifics.

soooooo . . . . . . what's the verdict on all this? Are we still pursuing with a 2nd plus extras, or is Mort just saying we had offered a 2nd at some purnt?

The FIRST deal was shot down but earlier tonight MORT did say the SAINTS are making a SECOND push and better deal for him. He also mentioned how SP was the OC for the Giants when they drafted him and there is a connection there.

My only issue with this is the focus Payton is putting on offense again.

Offense sells tickets, defense win championships. If he doesn't shore up that defense, we aren't going to sniff a super bowl.

well he said to let him get it straght but it went that the g-men shot down our offer of a sec but were still talking from i gathered i dont know from i thought i heard was little different
oh well looks like jason taylor is gonna be shopping though lol

so it's what we've known for about a day now?

I wouldn't lose any sleep over this report guys....doesn't seem that earth shattering to me yet. We shall see tomorow though.

He said the GMen aren't necessarily trading him, but they are taking calls for shock from some teams, and that PERHAPS the most intriguing one was from New Orleans and then he blabbered something about Payton having been the OC there.

As I said - if we can't trade down, and he's the guy we want, why not take him? It's a moot point IMO. If you like a player that you think fits your system and you can't trade down there is no excuse to not go after that player.

I have a feeling that a deal is going to get completed. I heard that the Saints did offer a 2nd round pick but I wouldn't be surprise if Mickey doesn't also offer a player.
