Expect the Saints to show interest in Chiefs OC Matt Nagy for HC per Dianna Russini (1 Viewer)

I get the feeling people will complain no matter who gets hired if the person’s name isn’t Ben Johnson or Joe Brady.

Complaining seems to be the order of the day (months).

This Saints leadership has gotten even worse than I thought. Nagy is Ken Wisenhunt 2.0. The only reason that chiefs offense is somewhat productive is Mahomes' uncanny abilities and Andy Reid.

Nagy would rank as one of the most idiotic hires in NFL history. To even interview him is an embarrassment.

And people wonder why some of us want Loomis gone yesterday? And no, it has nothing to do with 'reading comprehension'. This is the kind of crap that is in line with Mickey Loomis.

And no, Rizzi should not be a legitimate candidate.
This sounds like a coaching move to specifically develop Rattler.

Rebuilds can be exciting if the team has an identity and a plan in place. Most rebuilds seem to be competitive a year sooner than expected if done correctly, and that is exciting. I'll use Vrabel as an example. If he is hired, we know what we are getting. He's going to bring strong leadership and instill a physicality across the board from offense to defense. He's also going to install a 3-4, something Saints fans love as it brings back memories of the 3-4 and Dome Patrol. He's going to bring a team identity of running the ball. Derrick Henry in Tennessee comes to mind. Vrabel's teams beat up on teams and wore them down. We have pieces in place to go down both of those paths, a 3-4 defense and a physical rushing attack. Bresee is one player who could benefit a switch to a 3-4 and he's our most exciting player on defense due to what he can do. On offense, we have Penning who is similar in temperament to Taylor Lewan, a player Vrabel got the most out of. We also have Fuaga, so essentially we have 2 pieces on the O-line that can be physically dominating. This is where I like the option of drafting Jeanty at 10, he would be our Henry and embody that physicality of a strong rushing attack a Vrabel system would put in place. All of these things combined creates a team Identity and that is exciting during a rebuild. If we are imposing our will and beating teams up while building the team up, that is exciting. That's something to cheer for.
You’re preaching my language

Saints fans: We demand you look at coaches outside of the Payton years!

An article suggests the Saints *might* look at Matt Nagy.

Santa fans: Booo! Not like that!

Hopefully, prospective coaches don't have "reasonable fanbase" as an important quality in a head coaching job.

This.

We have a mere interview scheduled with a coach who had a winning record, took a putrid Bears franchise to the playoffs twice with Mitch Trubisky being saddled on him by a GM that struggled mightily in the talent acquisition department, came a double-doink FG away from advancing, and has since spent time the past three years working under the current premier coach for the current premier team of the league and one of the most innovative offenses the sport has seen play-design wise.

I don’t understand all the whining. Just because a guy fizzled out at one job doesn’t make him a bad candidate.

Reading some of these posts, you’d think we are passing on a host of 2-3 time Super Bowl Champion head coaches that are available to us.

It’s an interview, folks. That’s it. This is the exact type of candidate we should be interviewing from the former HC realm, along with a handful of potential up and comer types.

I think it’s worth hearing what Nagy has to say, at a minimal.

If Vrabel is so great, why did the team he built up become trash? I'm not saying he's no good, I'm genuinely asking the question on why if he's so good, then why did Tennessee become garbage?

I consider winning exciting football. Sure, dropping 40 burgers every week with a high flying passing attack might be more exciting, but bullying a team 21-0 through a punishing rushing attack with mixed in shot plays and a suffocating defense can be just as exciting and both are still Ws. Defense and running the ball wins in Nov through the playoffs and it travels.

They saying is run a 4-3, if you can get the big guys for the line. That tells me, it's easier to field a 3-4 now. I think we have more pieces in place to run a 3-4 than people think. Bresee and Turner can both play DE in a 3-4, Ridgeway might be able to play NT, especially if he gets stronger in the lower body. If not, then let him play DE as well rotating with Bresee or playing opposite should be want to go big. Foskey is probably more of a OLB in a 3-4, looking back at his draft profile, it's just as good if not better than a lot of the guys coming out this season and he's already on the roster. We know that DA and Grantham failed many players on the defense, he could be one of them. Any way we look at it, we need new talent across the board, but this team is not void of young talent and putting in systems that can capitalize on the strengths of the talent we have the best makes sense.
I'm going to have to disagree with you here. That's old school football, and old school football is not exciting. I mean it is for older people or people who are older in spirit, but today's game is all about scoring a lot of points and you're saying we won't be like that. So for me, that's not exciting, but as long as we're winning, I'd be fine with that.

I mean, he did get to the playoffs with Mitchell Trubisky twice. Lol
That's commendable

Did you watch any games in 2024? It's not old school football, but the running game and RBs have made a resurgence.

I'm saying low scoring games is old school football, the 10-7 type of games and that's what you said we would have, though your example was 21-0. Those games are not exciting.

Yeah, I didn't say 10-7, you did. I specifically said 21-0 with a rushing attack and shot plays. That's a modern version of old school football, that old school football that still wins games in 2024.
