N/S Falcons Have Second Interview With Bill Belichick (Now Likely To Be Falcons HC) (1 Viewer)

Draft Chart values are nowhere near fantasy, unless you are looking at the top pick, or maybe the top couple of picks. I put the chart values up there to show that the Falcons have the ammo to move up. (It take a willing trade partner. I don't know if any of the top 3 are interested in trading this year.) Moving from 9 to 1 last year was a huge jump and the Bears had no idea they would get #1 overall this year, it could have been in the mid teens, but the Panthers were terrible. At pick #1 in a pre-draft trade, you 100% guarantee that you get your guy.

Moving from #8 to #3 or #4 is not nearly as big of a jump if it is done on draft day. I doubt they pull off a pre-draft trade unless they think they are ok with any of the top 3 QB's and they try to get to #3. I think a pre-draft trade takes much more than a draft in progress trade.

Getting to #3, they probably would have to give up, #8 overall, their 2025 first round pick and probably a third round pick this year. But it takes a team willing to trade.

The first pick overall is a monster pick, you have 100% complete control. Teams overpay for that pick, they rarely overpay for pick #4, 5, 6, etc overall, especially if they have pick #8. Trading up from the mid teens to the top five is very costly because of the chart. If you take out the very top couple of picks every year, the draft trade chart holds up pretty well. It is only when a team is jumping up for a QB that they overpay if they are trying to get to picks #1, #2 and usually #3.

It is. It's mostly for fan speculation. I think it would cost more than their 1, 3, and 1 next year. But you have to have a willing trade partner and I don't think they'll have that in the top three unless the Bears decide to go with Fields. Then you're talking about trading up to #1 and looking at what the Panthers gave up last year.

If Bill takes over, I fully expect him to trade back from the #8 pick if one of the top 3 QBs aren't there and pick up an additional 2nd rounder while still picking up a QB in the 1st or early 2nd.
This may have been Bills MO in the past, but he and the Falcons will be in a win now mindset. He not only wants the all-time head coaching record for wins but would love another SB with a different team and without TB.

The Clowns would be foolish not to make a concerted effort to acquire Kirk Cousins in the offseason. That would not cost them any draft capital whatsoever. Then they could still use those picks plus a player to trade up to grab a top QB of the future that could sit the first year behind Cousins. A player such a Kyle Pitts or even Cordarelle Patterson could be of interest to a team that Atl could trade up with. Or they could sit and grab BPA at their #8 spot such as an offensive or defensive lineman or a wr. The Falcons are in need of a good Head Coach, a good OC, and a QB capable of winning now. They are in a position to make all 3 of these things happen in the offseason. Hopefully the FailClown things up along the way.

This. He is washed up and has proven nothing outside of Brady. Not to mention as soon as that division got decent... His teams fell to the bottom. I am guessing he is looking for that last massive payday so he can retire after a few disappointing seasons.
This is house money for BB.
If he went to Dallas, the fanbase and media would be expecting success.
But he’s going to Atlanta. And the Falcons have never been a high profile franchise at any point.
He can get his eighteen wins or so to break the record in three to four years in peace.
And if he does it during losing seasons, no one will question Bill because it’s the Falcons.

Rationalize how ever you want with your Saints goggles on... If he gets a QB.... This is bad news.

People act like BB didn't win games with Jimmy G and Matt Cassel when his team still had talent.
Yup, teams that consistently draft at the end of the 1st have a harder time building a decent roster after a while. We've run into that ourselves over the years. Bill did better than most teams do, but the sustained success took it's toll in New England. He won their division 16 times while he was there and made the playoffs 18 times. Making the playoffs puts you at the end of the line when it comes to the draft and he sustained that team for a really long time.

Rationalize how ever you want with your Saints goggles on... If he gets a QB.... This is bad news.

If he promotes Ryan Nielsen to OC, we're in good shape.

If he brings in McDaniels and moves up in the draft and snags a QB or signs Cousins and drafts a WR...

Concern. Much concern.

You guys are nuts if you think Belichick doesn't instantly make the Falcons a better team. I remember when the Bucs signed Brady, a good number of folks on this site, if not the majority, said Brady was washed and that they weren't worried about it.

That said, the guy's 72-years old, and is likely going to only be there a few years. And he doesn't have a Brady-quality QB to work with, so I'm not expecting the start of another Patriots type dynasty in Atlanta. But this move if nothing else shows the Falcons are serious about becoming competitive again, and they wouldn't be doing it, and Bill wouldn't be going there, if they didn't have plans to make a move on a quarterback as well. All things being equal, none of the other teams in the NFCS should be dismissing this so readily.

Belichick got Bucs fans shaking in their booties.

Right now, I’m not too scared by this. Elite QB’s surely don’t grow on trees — as we’re finding out post-Brees — and the Failclowns sure don’t have one that’s even decent. This feels similar to when the Saints hired Mike Ditka. It might put a few more butts in the seats in that town… but not very many when you consider the town 😁

Cleveland Bill took a 3 win team to 11-5 in 4 seasons and was getting ready to build something crazy in Cleveland. Imagine what he will do with a team missing a few pieces...lol.
I thought Cleveland went 2-14 in 1990 the year before Modell hired him for a long, difficult, and ultimately unsuccessful rebuild in 1991. He also traded away a still-viable Bernie Kosar midway through the 1993 season, and defended the trade as Kosar having "diminishing physical skills" even though Bernie was only 29 at the time. This was also the same Pro Bowl QB who led Browns to three AFCCG appearances in the mid-late 80's and if it weren't for two back-to-back heart-breaking losses, plus some bad, late in-game coaching by Marty Schottenheimer, Browns wouldve appeared in Super Bowls XXI and XXII.

What if they get a Brady, w/ # 7 pick and Jayden Daniels? How scary would that be.
I think Daniels will have a good career, but please don't put him in the category of Brady yet.
That's not fair to either player
