For anyone who says Carr is just a stat padder and don’t win: (24 Viewers)

We will never agree on sunshine pumping in the face of facts. But toeing the Loomis party line, playing super homer, just isn’t helping the franchise anymore.

Nothing we talk about here helps or hurts the franchise, FWIW.

I think sometimes, me included, we all get too angry and personal about how we feel things need to go to the point where you’d think we are all sitting in some board room making real life decisions.

We all want the same thing, none of us have a crystal ball to know whether our way is the right way or not, and we need to keep this in mind when getting angry at people because they feel a certain type of way about a particular philosophy or personnel move.

SaintKayBee isn’t “sunshine pumping,” they just believe in the course and think our lack of success is due to circumstances beyond the course of action you believe it is due to.

It is tho. You will only hold him accountable and accept his poor play if it happens on a "legitimate playoff team." So, Carr will continue to get a free pass/excuses for his decade long losing.
Then you go tell that to Stafford who won a SB after 12 years with the Lions. He dealt with the same criticisms from Lions fans and went on to win a SB with the Rams. Why the double standard?

And fwiw, I've frequently criticized Carr when he's played poorly. But he's been slightly better than .500 on a team decimated by injuries the last couple of seasons. Not to mention the terrible "leadership" of Allen as HC.

He's not Drew and people expecting that from Carr aren't being realistic.

Exactly…these past few seasons have been a masterclass on just how important supporting cast and coaching staff are on a QB. We have seen several QBs that were deemed busts as of late suddenly become good once they found a spot where all things aligned for them.

Stafford years ago, now Darnold, Mayfield, Geno, hell even Bryce Young has suddenly figured things out under Canales and his system.

Young’s success can MAYBE be attributed to experience, but these guys didn’t suddenly figure out how to play football again, no, they just found the right circumstances to thrive.

Carr has certainly not had that most of his career, except for that brief moment where he had prime Michael Crabtree, a young Amari Cooper and Coach Gruden on his way to finishing third in MVP voting and going to the playoffs.
II totally agree with your point.

Actually Darnold looked unimpressive in last night's loss. I know his stats looked great this year, but the only games I watched him play were both the Detroit games, the Jets game, and the Jacksonville game, and I am wholly unimpressed.

I think Darnold's season is going to be a one-off and if he leaves and goes elsewhere.

Jefferson bails him out A LOT and Jefferson draws a lot of double coverage which gives him a LOT of BIG windows to find other pass catchers.

This is another thing and I am glad you raised this point. I believe watching Drew Brees for 15 years has done something to this fanbase that I don’t know when or if it’ll ever get fixed.

We have to find peace in that what we got to watch all those years is a rarity and something we likely will never get to see again in a Saints uniform - an all-time great QB, playing near perfect football every week and rarely if ever the sole reason the team loses.

“Normal good” QBs have bad games. Darnold is having a really good season, but like most good but not superstar QBs, he’s going to have rough games every now and then.

Jefferson bailing him out isn’t some huge indictment.

A good starting NFL QB has a star WR at his disposal. Stop the presses! 😂

I already mentioned it the first time you made that uneven comparison. Stafford is far superior to Carr. Carr is more comparable to Andy Dalton/Jay Cutler. The only thing besides that you mentioned are excuses. He's has over a decade of excuses. You can stop making them. He is what he is.

Nice post, I mostly agree with it.....Carr is really the least of the problem with this team right now and if we release him then our only option (assuming we don't draft a QB) is Rattler, who may not be ready or another high priced marginal QB who probably isn't as good as Carr....

At this point, I really don't see the downside in keeping Carr around for one more year....

I already stated that i think Stafford is better than Carr. Speak for yourself and I'll speak for mine. If you call legitimate points excuses, then whatever floats your boat.

Ultimately...

But when I say it....haha

You know I agree with this 100%. This has ALWAYS been the case. QB success has always been tied to organization, coaching, scheming, and the cast of characters. You have never seen a QB be successful without those things...
Carr has certainly not had that most of his career, except for that brief moment where he had prime Michael Crabtree, a young Amari Cooper and Coach Gruden on his way to finishing third in MVP voting and going to the playoffs.
That wasn't Gruden but Del Rio. One thing about Gruden I will say is he "cleaned" up Carr (in terms of stats and "image") but I tell people that I would rather take 2016 Carr over any other version.

QB has really always been the least of our issues. I agree with this. I think Carr being here another season has zero downside.

I mean, it’s a real simple premise over here - I cheer for my favorite team to win  I’m not doing anything groundbreaking, revolutionary, or unexpected. I root for the people involved to have success, because seeing them do well makes me happy (whereas losing doesn’t devastate me as it once did - lose some dearly beloved friends early and your perspective on this stuff shifts). I don’t care if the HC/QB is Sean Payton/Drew Brees or Timon/Pumbaa - if they’ve got the black & gold on, I’m better to myself and others rooting for them to win than resigning to despair before they get on the field. One thing you’ll never catch me doing is getting personal, because that’s not fun for anyone involved.

Analytically speaking, in 2022 & 2023, that whole “cheer for my favorite team to win” thing didn’t expire til after their week 18 results were in, when some tiebreakers didn’t go their way. With multiple paths to the playoffs you don’t prefer that one, but getting there is the goal because you never know what could happen, and just doing some back of the napkin math here but somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 players would like to still be playing too so we have that in common. Anyway, this year elimination happened a lot sooner, the coach got fired and I… no longer posted about hoping for his/the team’s success because they were no longer linked. I moved on, even if someone following me around the board firing invectives at me hasn’t.

You cut him post June 1 and you eat a lot of dead money in 25 then 26 is almost completely clear.

Post June 1 = 21.5 dead. 30 MM in savings. Off in 26

Carr is a massive contract liability but will likely be on the roster next season.

The Saints don't get to enjoy "$30M in cap savings" by releasing him, because they are so maxed out in dead money already, and they are saddled with the unresolved contracts of other late-career or career-ending vets.

They can't keep absorbing the short term pain of vet releases and out-the-door restructures. Loomis has proven he is not capable of building or managing a competitive roster without the money he already spent on averaging just 7 wins the past 4 seasons. Injuries only amplify this fact, not mask it.

Carr's not Stafford, who was recruited as the last piece of the puzzle for the Rams, who already had a coach, defense, and system in place. The other dudes Darnold, Mayfield, Smith, etc... have proven nothing beyond they are currently decent regular season QB's.

"Making it happen" has been replaced by "Now killing us three seasons in advance!"

Then you know its a poor comparison. Excuses are excuses. Carr is who he is. You won't hold him accountable and blame others that's fine. I am basing my opinion on his results from over a decade of failure. You're "looking beyond the results.

Again with the blaming of the QB for every loss, like he's working by himself and not the other 10 guys on offense, 11 guys on D, the coaching staff. Nope, it's just the QBs out there against each other in a vacuum. 🤡

Do you think Joe Burrow is to blame for those losses this year? Or is the terrible defense just an "excuse" for him? 🙄

….which I hear a lot. This is now 0-6 without him, 12.5, 195, and -6. You’re telling me there isn’t a huge difference between being .500+ instead of 0’fer? Yeah, he’s not DB9, but who is? Thats never gonna happen again.
One of those losses we were up 17-0 and Jameis lost it.

Defense blew it week 3 and 4 when he came thru clutch.

There’s a few games out there where Carr could’ve earned a few more wins that aren’t on him. And some he was playing on a preseason offensive roster where he comps like Baker Mayfield or Rodgers are throwing to Evans/Godwin or Adams/Wilsom

As soon as someone can point me to the store where they have a bunch of better than Carr players on sale or that were ever available or better options at the time, let me know. Seriously.

Then you know its a poor comparison.
Says you.
Excuses are excuses.
Whatever makes you feel better.
Carr is who he is..
Yes.
You won't hold him accountable and blame others that's fine.
Not what I said, but keep repeating that nonsense I guess.
I am basing my opinion on his results from over a decade of failure.
Or, the teams he played for are failures. The Raiders havent gotten any better since he left. And we all know where Allen got us.
You're "looking beyond the results.
No, he literally has a winning record in games when he started and was not injured, for the Saints. And the Saints were 0fer when Carr doesn't play this season.

And again, I'm not saying he's the franchise qb we're looking for. I'm saying he's the best option we have right now and probably for at least one more season.
