I want no part of Aaron Glenn as a HC (6 Viewers)

Rankings ?? Ok , would you hire a coordinator that had not cracked the top 16 in ranking in his last 3 yrs ? And who's team record got worse every yr he was there. . Guess you would not have hired Sean Payton

Yes, I'm sure that rankings for Glenn's defenses mean nothing, and I'm sure prospective teams front offices believe that also....if you think that helps to make the case to hire him, like almost always, you are dead wrong....

It's also not an end all be all.....but to act like it doesn't matter is delusional....

In my Michael Corleone voice “just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in!”

I shoulda said it in the Jayden thread so as not to derail this one so this is my last comment here on it. I’m not saying what he’s doing isn’t special this soon in his career, of course it is.

Fact is what he’s doing as a dual threat is being done currently by Lamar and has been for several years. They are still contemporaries.

Sure he could eventually be better than all of them and sooner rather than later. He could also take a step back if Kingsbury leaves among other things as teams get more film on him. We will see. But a generation is 20-30 years on average is my point.

I agree with you however on AG. If we going to go down this road then we should only consider hiring whichever coordinator wins the Super Bowl because that always works right?

It's not just special, he's only the 2nd rookie QB to ever reach a conference championship game, and if they win he will be the only one to ever get to a SB.....

I like Lamar and he had a great season, but when the pressure is on, in the biggest games, he tends to turn the ball over....as great as he is I think JD is better already.....

Anything is possible, he could digress (I doubt it), he could get injured if they don't start severely limiting his running (more likely).....but he has put together probably the best (or most successful) season any rookie QB has ever had and I don't think it is an anomaly.....

I don't disqualify a candidate over a single game, I just don't think AG is the guy for us.....I want an offensive minded coach....

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to praise what Quinn and his staff did this week while putting down Glenn. You do realize Quinn’s last stint as a DC was allowing GB to put up 48 in the playoffs. I think that’s worked out ok for Washington.

I want the culture to change. Everyone who plays in the NFL has elite talent and toughness. But the Saints don't have NFL elite talent or NFL level toughness. The offense is finesse and the defense is soft. They badly need some Dawgs. That starts with coaching. I don't think Glenn is that guy.

Joe Brady absolutely elevated the QB play with Teddy Bridgewater in Carolina. Teddy had a career year there in Joe Brady's first year and so did their RB. It was the second year with Sam Darnold that didn't go well.

Maybe you don't recall, but that year with Teddy, people on this board were complaining that we let him go, but were also happy for him because it was going so well.

And to be fair, we just watched Sam Darnold do the same things the last few games this season under Kevin O'Connell (who we know is a great coach) that Darnold also did under Joe Brady.

IDK if Sean McVay got the idea from Aaron Glenn, but we saw the Lions in the last game of the season disguise their bliztes and we watched Sam Darnold struggle because of it. Then Sean McVay comes in and did the same exact thing the first playoff game, and Sam Darnold struggled.

I haven't watched any of those Carolina games, but it would be worth consideration that perhaps Sam Darnold super struggles against disguised defenses and perhaps that played a role in that Carolina season.
Well, we know Teddy B is very capable after what he did here, so I can't give Brady credit for that. Sean had already resurrected his career, and some thought he was an initial replacement for Drew until he decided to come back. The Viking coach is the only person to get something out of Darnold.

A trend occurs with Moore. His offenses aren't bad by any stretch of the imagination. But his QB's always seem to have "down" years while his RB's tend to have up years. I understand Dak had a good year under him, but we've now seen Herbert and Hurts regress underneath him. That's the opposite of what we need. We don't have a franchise QB, we need a coach who can groom a QB into a franchise QB. Considering the last two franchise QB's had down years under him, I don't see why he would be an intriguing candidate unless we want to forego the idea of grooming any franchise QBs at all in hopes that a running game can solely make us a superbowl contender. Which I don't think can happen. Yes the Eagles passing game is in a down year, but the Eagles passing game in a down year is still as the saints passing game in a good game. We need a QB "whisperer".

At this point, my gut feeling tells me its Brady or Ben Johnson and the others is just settling to be relevant again. Some of these coaches, like Glenn and Kingsbury I think wouldn't wield any better results then DA (a team struggling to be .500). Especially Kingsbury. He had 1 good coaching year in Arizona, struggled to work with his franchise QB and struggled to be a .500 team the other 3 years. It's also we documented that his game time adjustments were abysmal.

And here's the kicker. We need to pick a head coach who we can give several years to. Not just 2 or 3. We need to eye for a coach who can be here for a decade and make a superbowl contender. I just don't see that with Glenn, Moore, Kingsbury, McCarthy... The only two candidates available who constantly elevate their players and go toe to toe with superbowl coaches are Brady and Johnson. And Johnson doesn't seem to want anything to do with us, which leaves us with just Brady. Both of em being first time head coaches are going to have some up and downs and learning curves and we gotta stick with it so long as we see progress.

Hurts had a good TD/INT ratio and his highest QBR under Moore. He just didn't throw for a lot of yards. Herbert TD/INT ratio was fine, and his QBR was the same as the previous year, just didn't throw for a lot of yards. I wouldn't call that regression but playing a more balanced offense which is probably what we need without a franchise QB. He's not my first choice but I'd rather him than Glenn.

Just curious as to why Glenn is more attracted to the Jets job than the Saints job. I haven't read anything specific. Any thoughts?

People listen to much to the media or let stats shape their opinion instead of actually watching games. Lions defense hasn’t been good… wow. I really can’t remember when they were ever good. But it certainly hasn’t been in the last 5 years.
I think a solid argument could be made that they had the best defense in the NFL when they had Dick LeBeau...

Not as a DC as a player.

I would argue that the 62 Lions were one of the greatest NFL defenses of the 60s. Maybe even one of the Top 100 defenses of all-time. They had 5 HoFers on defense. Can you name them? Their Defense Coordinator is also in the HoF.

Also interesting is that their DC in 1962 was hired as a HC the next year and went on to coach in a superbowl (68) with the Colts.

They drafted him, and he probably thinks their defense is better right now (they have 2-3 all pro guys). He may even think he can get Rogers to act right in the short term.

You must have missed the whole Cooper Rush having 5 starts in '22 because Dak was hurt. How come McCarthy gets a pass this year but Moore doesn't in '22? He was McCarthy's scapegoat and everyone knows it. The irony is his name has been floated to replace McCarthy in Dallas.

You're discounting Payton's history, he coordinated the Giants 15th ranked offense led by Kerry Collins to the Super Bowl in 2000. He also turned around Dallas' 2nd worst passing offense and made it into a middle of the pack passing offense with a whole bunch of nothing at QB. He was a up and coming offensive mind, not just that he had a strong drive and could motivate players.

No one is comparing Allen to Glenn as people. Yes they are complete opposite. Glenn won't be the abysmal failure that Allen was but he runs a very similar scheme to Allen but with less success. lol. Plus there's the whole offensive coordinator carousel dilemma that even Payton Manning sees as a big problem for young QB's,
Rush had 5 starts in 22 and Dak missed 9 games this yr . Yeah Bledsoe , and Romo , Payton had a whole lot of nothing. And if you think it was the Giant offense that won the SB you're forgetting about the top 5 defense they had

I agree with Manning that's why if Glenn is hired I'm in favor of keeping the entire offensive staff

Like I said since rankings mean everything to you and not so much the type of coach the guy is you would not have hired an OC that never got higher than 16 . Like Sean Payton . You would have been dead wrong on that one as well
