It appears the Kellen Moore thing is shaky (19 Viewers)

Just for fun, anyone find the thread announcing Payton as HC?
I'd love to read it

Edit, couldn't find anything that predated around November 2006. Did find this thread, if you want to call it that. People appreciated his calm and stoic demeanor mixed w/ a bit of attitude. Moore has some of those traits..he just smiles a little more but based on what Orlovsky said...he can get snippy if he wants.

Sean Payton was terrible in college as a QB. Doesn't mean he wouldn't be a great HC.
Sean Payton is in the Eastern Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame. His jersey was retired in 2010. From EIU Athletics:

Payton was a quarterback at EIU from 1983-86 helping guide the Panthers to the NCAA FCS quarterfinals in 1986. He finished his playing days as the EIU career leader in total offense (10,298), passing yardage (10,655), pass completions (758) and touchdown passes (75). … During his career he had five games with 400 or more yards passing including a 509 yard effort against Saginaw Valley.

Awful!

(He didn’t make it as a pro QB because the 5’10, 190lb guys pretty much never do)

Apparently his plan is to hire a bunch of older coaches by paying them a lot of money while Rizzi takes less than most HCs. It's the Ed Orgeron plan which doesn't bode well for Rizzi since it seems to fall apart as soon as coordinators and assistants move up.

If his plan was to hire the smartest young coordinators that might not have the experience and leadership but are geniuses on their side of the ball, I would be more interested. But brining in a bunch of guys with old ideas and nothing fresh seems doomed to disaster. Especially since he pretty much so already had that with DA's staff.

Exactly, everything is a crapshoot.

Be as visionary as you can be, given the situation, roll the dice and see what happens.

Anybody that predicted on Jan. 18, 2006 that Sean Payton would win a Super Bowl three years later would have been called crazy.
I predicted it, but that was mainly based off of the article I read in the newspaper where I saw various things Payton said and based off of that, I was confident that he could win us a Super Bowl. I also was a big fan of Brees and knew he was going to be good, but I didn't know he would be one of the greatest of all time. Another thing I predicted was that the Saints would trade their 1st and 3rd to New England in order to draft Ellis. Only thing I got wrong on that one was that they sent us a 5th too. But technically, all of that was luck. But I still predicted it!

I think Joe Woods had a lot to do with our defensive struggles. The Browns had a good on paper defense that struggled against the run too. Not a surprise that it carried over to our defense. Combined with the fact that Allen ran a powder puff TC and practices helped lead to more missed tackles, bad angles and I bet that's a part of the injury issues we have. Our defensive line has been let down by absolutely abysmal coaching that Allen handpicked. Players celebrated Grantham leaving. Everyone took a step back last year, we certainly have areas we can improve but what we desperately need is proper coaching. I think Adebo should be a doable re-sign, I don't think Howden is as bad as he looked at times this year although we certainly need to add more at that position, and our defensive line has talent that needs proper coaching but NT is a need.

Our offensive line only has 1 true hole, LG. Ruiz could be upgraded but that's more of a want than a need. We have two young tackles that excel in run blocking. We have 3 WR's that can play that Y and Z spots, yes we need an X WR that can make contested catches and we could use that at TE as well. RB is ugly, Kamara is going to be 30, Miller can't stay healthy or learn the playbook, Mims is a minimal role player, Williams is an easy cut and I think CEH was a street FA we signed to help us make it through the season. A QB that can carry the offense is always a want but you can still be an effective offense without one.

If we can move towards a run based offense that reduces the importance of an QB, draft well, clear enough cap to sign a LG, Adebo and I'd try to re-sign Young who stepped up when Grantham left. Then I think there is a path forward to success.
Powder puff training camp? All of the reports said otherwise. People were talking about how hard this past TC was. It was the practices during the season where things seemed to be powder puffed.

You should be playing the lottery then.

One time I came close to winning the Fox Sports betting thing where you predict 5 different scores in the NFL. I got 4 of them right. I've also correctly guessed the amount of items on a delivery truck when I worked at Stein Mart. It was in the hundreds. I might've gotten one right at Big Lots when the number was in the thousands. I just don't have enough money to play around with to continuously keep trying.

Okay, you can call it a strawman argument and just live in lala land if you want, and that can be a tool you use to feel good about a situation (or yourself). I would call it blind optimism, but do what makes you feel better.
Do me a favor my man. Please quote where I ever said I "feel good" about the situation or have displayed what you call "blind optimism."

You're not hearing what I'm actually saying. It seems that anyone who doesn't share the exact same negative perspective that you do is "blindly optimistic."

"Optics" of a situation is just another word for judging a situation. I don't judge situations when I know I only have the scantest of information about the situation. Not judging the "optics" is not the same thing as being "blindly optimistic" about the situation.

Hope you accurately understand my viewpoint now.

Biggest dodge bullet ever. But that's the microcosm of chasing a veteran franchise QB for instant stability.

I don't think you'll ever see a Drew Brees available ever again.

It's time to do it the hard way and draft a franchise QB. Time to suck.
Sucking is not the only way to draft a franchise QB. Kansas City got Mahommes without sucking. Green Bay got Rodgers and Love without sucking. The Ravens got Jackson without sucking.

A lot of really good QB's got drafted in the middle to the end of the first round and a few in rounds after that.

Kansas City getting Mahomes is 100% dependent on other teams passing on him. We aren't that lucky.

We were one pick and Sean Payton keeping his mouth shut from being exactly that lucky. And we were in position to draft Jackson, Hurts, and Love but passed on each one of them.
