N/S Jane Slater: Coach Prime met with resistance after asking for more money for NIL and his staff (15 Viewers)

LSU won't call Gayle and ask for a favor huh. Lol
Not to go to much into the competition between the Saints and LSU, but I would not be surprised if she doesn’t.

Think of it like this. The Saints have no competition in the pro sports area until Atlanta. The only competition Gayle has is LSU.
If this NIL thing hits like everyone thinks it will and the southern schools without that NIL cash become less relevant. And that includes LSU.
A less competitive LSU means a bit more visibility to the Saints. Especially if they hit on another run.
This isn’t about this season or next.
If NIL is what everyone fears, that could lessen LSU’s fanbase in two decades. Especially if the Saints can pull off another championship run.

So it's okay for the schools and coaches to get al the money? elite college players always got paid, it was just under the table. The amateur and student-athlete label was always bullljive. Every starter for a school like LSU or Georgia should be making at least the equivalent on an entry-level salary in their state. Rhodes scholars and Nobel prize faculty members don't bring money into these schools like top football and basketball programs. How much indirect money do you think Deion brought to Colorado over the past couple years?
I just think there needs to be a cap on what a player can make and I believe 1 transfer is all they need. And what is an entry level salary? Average Joe salary or football salary? Cause if it's an average Joe salary they gonna be making about 30k per year. I just don't see a kid making millions in college as right. If you cap a salary so they can't make more at another school, then they will be less likely to transfer. Just need a handle put on all this mess.

I think this is one of those “Two things can be right at once” situations. Yes, it’s fair for the players, no, this and the transfer portal aren’t good for the purity of the college game.

If you don’t see a college kid getting paid millions for the games he’s played, then all the TV contracts should be torn up.
No more national games.
No school sponsorships with companies like Coca Cola.
Because all of them are making billions of dollars.

If you really feel this way, college football should truly amateur with about the national reach of a high school football team.

It's so overblown thinking the southern schools won't be able to come up with money for NIL deals. LSU currently has the 7th most NIL deals in the country. Something like 6 of the top 10 NIL money schools are from the south.

Just using LSU as an example.

They rank 5th in NIL revenue sharing for the 2025-2026 season

They rank 3rd in NIL collective funding

However, I am also aware that numbers can and are likely manipulated both ways on this. There is no way the common fan can get a true accurate picture of any of it because the numbers are so all over the place. One thing we know or should know, is that the idea that the southern schools cannot compete in the NIL times that we are in is completely overblown.

Sorry, we or I got off topic from the thread

This isn’t about this season. This is about the next twenty.
Just to use LSU for example. What if they go on a decade long drought during the NIL era?

Yea, that would be tough. But, there is no real point in playing a "what if" game. Especially when it's not likely.

NIL will look a lot different in CFB in the next couple years then it does right now, I cannot even imagine what it may look like in 20 years lol

Not to get off topic, but I think you’re gonna see a few more non traditional with big donors win titles.
And a few traditional powers turn into Arkansas

I do not think you are wrong, I think with how it has went so far. Anyone who has an opinion on it is just as likely to be right as the next. I say that because it's completely out of control, and until the powers at the top get some type of control over it, there is no telling what direction it will take. However, I foresee some major changes coming in the near future.

My thoughts were originally the same, but I just realized the Cowboys would get a lot of nationally covered games. Now I hope it doesn't happen. Watching the Cowboys and listening to announcers suck their jock straps is about as fun as plucking nose hair.

They're going to get those no matter who their coach is.

Are you new to our wonderful country? haha

Money is free speech in our oligarchy. No different for college football. There is no middle ground. The old way used players as chattel.

The NCAA was defanged a long time ago because they only selectively enforced, and they were draconian to some, while ignoring others. They guarded the old world. Now, they work for the conferences and the conferences tell them what to do or to screw off.

But you need to understand that community and corporate NIL has nothing to do with the NCAA. Employers can hire anybody and pay them what they want, and the recipient just has to make sure they are reporting and compliant with tax law.

If you are disappointed by things like the Michigan billionaire donor flipping LSU's 5 star recruit QB, , maybe write a letter to your congressperson, who is probably owned by the same billionaire donors who are co-invested in owning the players on their favorite college football team.

Land of opportunity (for some), baby.
Yes corporate NIL is separate, but the NCAA approved it. Which, they didn’t set any concrete rules in place bc they didn’t foresee how big of a 💩 show this would get.

I don’t give 2 💩s about the Underwood stuff. I’m all for athletes getting their money. I just believe that they should get their money after they made a name for themselves. Like actually playing and playing well. No kid, fresh out of high school, should be getting million dollar deals before stepping foot on campus. That is my issue. But hey, if millionaires and billionaires want to waste their money like that, then I won’t lose any sleep at night.

Wealthy billionaires have been paying players under the table for decades.
Yes they have but there were different secret channels about how they did it. I sorta liked it bc there was a way they moved about it, with also knowing that if they got caught, then there could potentially be punishment for it. I’m good with that
This Wild Wild West stuff doesn’t help the vast majority of players. Yes it helps them monetarily immediately, but it doesn’t help them with understanding that sacrifices and hard work, could ultimately get them real life changing money.

If there are set parameters in place, that make sense, then it can be good for the game. The carriage was placed in front of the horse. It will be tough for them to clean it up to where it should’ve been in the first place. It’s all a mess
