Just another day in New Orleans (1 Viewer)

I'd argue the now what would be for the city to get rid of the corruption by voting them out, whether by recall or next election, and maybe by the city redefining their toxic relationship with BR. Both the corruption and that toxic relationship are not helping the city.

Maybe that helps, maybe not, idk. But the voters can't continue to allow the city to be fleeced by those running it.

To both you and EC, I was speaking to the broader problem of people tolerating corruption depending on party and alliances.

But, sure, remove Cantrell. The bigger solution is solving the systemic problems, though. That’s more so the “now what?” that is standing in the way.

You have to get rid of the corruption before you can legitimately address the systemic issues.

But, no doubt party over city or country is an epidemic in this country.

Money is the answer and until local and state governance can get on the same page it wont improve. At some point the voters have to take a good long look in the mirror but they arent educated to earn enough money to buy a mirror.

That might be the case in Jackson (and my MIL lives in Jackson, so I am very familiar with the issues you’ve described) but New Orleans isn’t broke or being squeezed by BR. Between Katrina federal aid, port revenue, tourist dollars, pandemic aid, the city has received more than 20 billion in just the last 18 years.

We just can’t translate that into civic progress. NOPD has high pay and benefits but keep losing cops to neighboring parishes. We had billions in FEMA money for road repairs that sat unused for years until the deadline approached and the city just let out a ton of projects all at once, so there are hundreds of half done streets everywhere.

Money isn’t our problem.

Yeah, we agree. This exchange started with a caution to GrandAdmiral that didn’t seem to have relevance here. I don’t think anybody is defending Cantrell, or opposed to her being held accountable, on this forum.

Indeed, and that's the point I think is being missed by a few. Blaming the state, as many issues as they cause, is deflecting from her shenanigans.
That deflecting word has been tossed out a bunch
I think anyone will be hard pressed to find even the whiff of support for her on this thread (or even board)
Encouraging the use of context and perspective is not deflecting at all
I’ve said my piece on this many times

Laban (banal backwards) was a German choreographer who developed a symbolic language to notate dance
Linguistically it’s very interesting but it’s also cumbersome as ****
It’s good dance history but it has very little if any practical value
HOWEVER college admins loved having Labanotation classes (even certificates) bc it was the least subjective aspect of dance and college (and HS) admins hate subjectivity

Laban was actually most impactful for his insights into ergonomics and industrial workplace design- he found many ways to arrange workplaces to be more efficient and for workers to limit repetitive action injuries

But I’ll play your game as well:
White and delightsome
Uh, Laban backwards is Nabal

What exactly the problem then? She's getting well-deserved criticism. The issues of the state and city are separate issues. It's deflecting if A doesn't have anything to to with B.

Of course they’re not separate issues
It would be structurally impossible for them to be separate issues
But I’ve said why it’s an issue manymany times
If people don’t accept, cool
But this feels more like one of those things were people just want to deal with EE discussions in binary terms
Even though they’re usually much more nuanced

Well, we won't see eye to eye on this because they are separate. The state isn't making her do the nonsense she's doing. She's doing it because she she thinks she can get away with it. She's not been held accountable and that's a problem.

Just because you say it's structurally impossible doesn't mean anything because I'm not seeing what you're saying. So...we're at an impasse. It's OK though. We won't always agree on things. :9:

Are there plans for more garages? I quit flying out of MSY due to no parking. Never seen another airport where parking is full, much less consistently full.

Unfortunately, no. Total screw-up in the planning process. Unless you fly out on Tuesday mornings, the lots are generally full. Thursday-Sunday its basically shut out. (Unless you want to park in the old garage by the old terminal and take a 15 minute bus ride - no thanks).

I did discover that you can reserve a spot on their website and then park there even if it shows 'full' but I usually just uber at this point.

Doesn't help when Park-n-Fly basically disappeared. US Park added spots and still be full most of the time. These days it's easier to just fly BTR.
