Marvel getting desperate (6 Viewers)

while this point can be argued- it’s much harder to make the case that it’s because of more inclusive and diverse representation
I don’t think that it’s because of inclusion. That’s not my point. I think that even the new men headliners are weaker characters. It feels like there are lots of Hawkeyes and not enough Captain America. The inclusion and diversification is just an extension of that.

We are having a lot of discussion and debate over an unconfirmed rumor from a shaky source. I'd be willing to bet $20 she is in talks to play Nova, not SS.

Anyone remember a early 90s comic arc called the Herald Ordeal?

Speaking of rumors, and I know there is alot of uncertainty around the Blade movie, but I've now heard that Norman Reedus might be cast as Ghost Rider and debut in the Blade movie. That's one rumor I desparately want to be true.

On a recent episode of Pardon the Interruption Tony Kornheiser had a line I thought was interesting

He was talking about sports dynasties in general and the Golden State Warriors in particular

"First you're good. Then you're great. Then you're good. Then you're done."

That may apply to Marvel. Maybe it's just over.

And if it is, the MCU will still go down as one of Hollywood's greatest successes

And improbable. After seeing Iron Man for the first time and finding out about their plan for a shared universe of movies, I thought "that will never work"

It did. For well over a decade

I think they need to start over

Instead of incorporating the X-Men and Fantastic Four into this existing MCU start a new one over with them then introduce new versions of Spiderman, Hulk, Captain America etc. and not just re cast version of the same heroes, but complete new versions. Make it clear this is not the same Iron Man and Thor we've seen

And even then, it may not be enough. Maybe comic book movies are just done for now. they'll be back, the characters are too ingrained in our culture not to be but maybe not for a decade.

I'm very curious what the new Superman turns out to be

Well, I think Disney has gotten the message about oversaturation. There's only one currently scheduled movie release '24. Deadpool. I'm looking forward to that. I'm curious if he'll be toned down at all or if he'll be the same Deadpool we all know and love.

the analogy falls short bc it lacks (lots of) context
it's not like Marvel has been replaced - there's no Nuggets or Bucks in the analogy - and you would have to have a scenario where the whole structure of the NBA (or even sports watching) changed
it's probably more like Marvel is the NFL and everyone is predicting it will have a similar fate as MLB - a mostly legacy product that gets infusions of newness every now and then
it might...

but if anything thinks they can predict what streaming and movies looks like in the next decade is either savant or psycho

I think the analogy works from a quality standpoint. It's not perfect because there are more moving parts and factors than simply being a good sports team

But in broad strokes I think it works. MCU is a dynasty that past it's peak. It's not like the reviews for the post Endgame movies and shows are great but people aren't watching.

Like a sports team they've had some retirements, some veteran's that are past their time, some questionable writing (coaching) decisions. They just aren't what they were

These latest text message reveals aren’t good for Jonathan Majors. That seems like some disturbing & manipulative behavior.

I also think a break and a full reboot would do good.
Remember that gap between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins?
That created anticipation.
Like you said, the characters will still be there.

Could be manipulative, but sounds to me like the words of someone who is bipolar or mentally unstable. At minimum, he needs to get help.

What he says to her in those texts is pretty standard operating procedure for someone engaging in emotional abuse.

When your partner has a legitimate issue with your behavior and might leave or tell others about it, you threaten self harm and try to make them feel responsible.

It certainly could be one of those things you suggested as well. I agree there. It just set off an alarm for me.
