Mickey Loomis’ End Of Year Press Conference (2 Viewers)

He admitted the Saints have lost ground and need to make it up so we will see if they change some things, particularly how the team drafts. "We didn't have a successful season."

"I felt like we got off to a slow start in a number of areas."

I observed self-awareness as well as a lot of nuance that we as emotional fans don't want to take a wait-and-see approach on, but I gather he is going to be a touch more heavy-handed as he mentioned things he needs to fix with the culture (never mind DA as the HC, DA's coaches, or some of the older players). His point about doing what it takes to have a successful team focuses on intrinsic motivations and the players "need to work on their craft 24/7" alluding to player execution and drive.

I gather, based on the veiled comments about preparation, slow start, lack of success, etc...DA is on borrowed time if he doesn't show success. Success (to ML and most of us) is playoffs and beyond.

After listening, I'm willing to back off on the call to "FIRE MICKEY LOOMIS!"

I am cautiously optimistic that changes will continue. If we see a different Saints draft effort then I'll be a true believer that change is afoot.

This is what I heard as well.

The tone was really strange. But if you separate that from the majority of what was said, you can see where there’s a lot of stuff that has slipped that is fixable. And they’re going to work hard to fix that part of it.

Then…if it still doesn’t work…you know for sure that personnel changes are needed.

Now that is a reasonable response. Thank you

I wonder how this gets manifested…aggressive draft day trade? Splash free agent?

Or is this just lip service?

He thinks they’ve gotten too comfortable. He made it sound like preseason/training camp is way too lax.

Lots of stuff about work that needs to be done outside of football hours, too wrt film study, etc. He said they can’t force players to do it. But the players need to decide what they’re willing to do to be their best. It’s their careers.

Interesting, I remember posting about this in another thread. Payton followed the Parcells mold and looked for players who loved football, those are the guys who are going to put in the work and won't be swayed as much by the week-to-week results. Maybe we've gotten away from that, we certainly looked unprepared at times and players (Kamara) suggested we had guys on the team that weren't putting in the work needed.

I live in South Florida and there’s a lot of stuff about “Miami Heat culture.”

What it ignores is that the Heat intentionally seek out players who are willing to live in the gym. They provide nonstop training if players are willing to use it. But they put an enormous premium on players who will spend hours there.
