Nick Underhill: Players organizing a Players-Only Meeting (1 Viewer)

Didn't help last year. The fact that we've had two instances of player-only meetings in each of the last 2 seasons says a lot about the state of this franchise.

Ohhh, Mickey. You and the culture that you thought was yours...
Well it did help last year, we ended up finishing 9-8 and barely missed the playoffs.

That would require Mrs. B actually giving a crap about the state of the Saints.

Oh come on. What owners publicly talk about the state of their team other than Jerry? Just because she is silent doesn't mean she doesn't care. She flew to Houston to meet with DeShaun Watson because DA and Loomis wanted to sign him and she wanted to vet him considering all the character issues with Watson. An owner who doesn't care doesn't do things like that.

I get that everyone is angry about the season, and the last 4 season, and just wants to see heads roll, but it's gotten ridiculous at this point with people taking personal shots at people they have never met and don't know. Gayle Benson has never done anything but write whatever checks need to be written to make her teams competitive, hired qualified people to run the franchises, and kept two professional sports franchises in a small market when she could have made multiple billions of dollars by selling them to the highest bidder. The personal attacks are just unwarranted and unsupported.

Exactly. Not to mention derogatory comments about the team and FO still violate the site TOS. Criticism is fine, but pot shots and name calling isn't.

When player's organize meetings without coaches, that tells me that your leader's are noticing that players have quit on the coach/team.

I'm be blunt. We have loads of exceptional talent on both sides of the ball. I believe their not playing to their level because of lack of coaching leadership, lack of belief in the head coach, and they're all mentally disappointed, approaching each game as if the coaching is failing them, so why should they have to outplay the coaching.

There's a lot more wrong with this team than the head coach and I know you're naive enough to think Allen is making front office decisions.

Loomis decides who we draft, who we sign and contracts. Scouting staff and Ireland do the leg work and have a lot of input later in the draft and UDFA but the buck stops at Loomis.

We could have signed a lot of depth with the $45 million in dead cap we're carrying this year. Hell we could have signed a legit starting guard and then some. Instead we we're forced to go bargain shopping for Patrick with nothing but disappointing low round draft picks backing him up. We couldn't even sign a tackle with starting experience to compete with Penning during TC with the loser serves as a swing tackle. We're lucky as hell Penning was up to the challenge and that somehow our two tackles are the only men left standing on offense. Imagine how bad we'd be if we got last year's Penning as our defacto starting RT. There's simply not enough talent to "coach up" much less compete at an NFL level.

Please fire Allen but let's take a second and actually acknowledge that they're coming in handicapped and until our other problems are solved, we shouldn't expect an instant turn around.

I agree with some of this, but I think you're greatly underestimating how much influence Allen and Co have on draft picks/free agent decisions. There is a very noticeable difference in the amount of draft picks that found success with the team under Payton vs the amount of busts under Allen as HC. It's certainly possible that Payton had a lot of input into the draft pick decisions, and not so much Allen. But that doesn't seem logically correct to me. Of course, there's also an argument you can make that the draft picks under Payton were just better coached up, and better put into position to succeed. That's a very valid thought process to consider. But at some level, there is a reason our draft picks under Allen work out much less, that is directly correlated to Allen.

Nick deleted his tweet... So... That's a sign

He deleted the tweet but the same article is still up on his site and linked to the new Tweet. I think he deleted it because people were taking it out of context of the article and assuming that it meant a players only meeting to revolt against DA because that's what people want to happen. When, in fact, it's a meeting among the players to discuss what they need to do better.

Either way it's a bad reflection on DA, but it's not the player mutiny that we want it to be.

Kamara spoke about it in his interview unprovoked. The vibe I'm getting is that Allen enjoys veteran teams because he likes those guys to control the lockerroom while he focuses on X's and O's. He appears to not have personal relationships w/ guys, other than perhaps bottom line hey gotta cut ya, type moments. This may be what Amy Trask was alluding to when she mentioned his "leadership style".

He's just not very personable and we're right back where we were last year, the players can't focus on playing because they have to be worried about making sure the guy next to him does his job.

Kamara has been dropping hints while trying to be professional about it for years now, even last week when he got his new deal. He knows what the problem is.
