Nick Underhill: Saints Might Not Move on from DA (1 Viewer)

Lol the boy is a freshman behind one of the top college QBs in their junior season.. ok... anyway i dont care where he goes in the NFL, but he is going to be a legit QB.

I'm sorry, above doesn't really provide any evidence that Arch is what folks think he may turn into.....It could happen..... but based on going to Manning camps (of course he would) and an "it" factor when he has played a total of 5 college games and is now benched in favor of another QB?

I'll wait and see how he plays over a season, because at this point no one knows and I find it just silly that folks think they do.....
Indeed. Cart before the horse and all that.

This. Let's say ML gets rid of DA. Think about what that would mean for ML. ML knows that we are going to be a bad team for at least 2 more years after this season. If he were to get rid of DA, that would mean that ML starts catching all the bullets. By keeping DA around, ML gets to deflect most of the blame. Truth is that ML should be shouldering most of the blame already. DA is a human shield for ML and every year DA stays is a year for Loomis to hide from the truth.

I disagree. Look at this thread. Look at this board. Basically every one of us agrees that DA should be fired. And because it hasn't happened yet, the board has turned on Loomis and is calling for his head. I suspect it's the same in the fan base at large. The easy way to deflect that blame is to hire a new head coach and tear the team apart. That buys Loomis at least 3 more years because it's a new head coach and they are rebuilding. Refusing to fire DA and start new actually puts Loomis more in the cross-hairs of fans than firing DA and tearing the team apart.

GMs have been firing head coaches and hiring new ones since time began to buy themselves a few more years in the job. I think Loomis legitimately thought, and maybe still thinks, DA can turn this around. I think he's tragically wrong and needs to go if he doesn't fire DA at the end of this year. But I don't think he's doing it to deflect the blame. If he is, it's not working at all because fans are now calling for his head.

Possibly, but he still has to prove it on the field like everyone else.

Saints will retain Loomis, Loomis will retain Allen
you're probably right. but I've seen this movie before, several times. I saw it at the end of Mora's tenure. I saw it the entire Ditka tenure. I saw it in Haslett's last season. Some of the Saints lifers can probably add to the list, but I can't speak to that. I came onboard with Mora, Mills, & Vaughn Johnson when the USFL folded and just never left...dunno why....much like "picking a dog at the rescue", I think your team picks you, not the other way around. So I'm not going anwhere. And I have no say. Just flashbacks to the era of the 'Aints, where you hoped for the best and were pleasantly surprised when it actually happened. Considering how long it took for Mora, and then CSP to show up and lift our fortunes, I hope I live long enough for the 3rd dynasty to be discovered. And right now, we're not even looking for it...

Patience is virtue

I get it, it just doesn't seem logical to me for a few reasons. Just to get the Arch Manning concept out of the conversation, he's a redshirt freshman. His family, especially Eli, have been pounding it into his head to stay in college and not entire the draft until after his senior year, which so far, he's been listening to their advice (look back him considering entering the transfer portal and Eli telling him no, to stay as Ewers backup). So it could be till 2028 when Arch enters the draft. None of us have a crystal ball so its hard to say.

To the rest of the post, the players have checked out, its true. We all see it. But the cap is in shambles. We have no draft capital. Its hard to imagine what good potential coach would want to come here next season even if we wait till the offseason to fire Dennis Allen. We'd likely end up with another below average or bottom of the barrell coach.

To top that off I think you're greatly misunderstanding what "the message" your sending impact really has. The players have "silently quit" already. Firing a head coach mid season is also incredibly dramatic. I think its unreasonable to expect people who have silently quit, to be introduced to a turmoil of drama and expect them to re-engage with any enthusiasm. Yes, it seemed to occur with the Raiders last year when Pierce took over, but its also having a negative impact on the Jets this year. And from what we've seen in the past, it rarely, if ever, has a positive outcome.

And again, you're adding an additional factor for the next head coach to consider when accepting the job. Why would Ben Johnson, or Aaron Glen accept this job when there are more stable front offices, with less drama and better cap situations pining for em? Anyone who comes in after DA will be set up for failure.
I get what you're saying, and where you're coming from. You may even be right?! I just disagree, respectfully.

Your points to NOT fire the HC mid-season are all valid reasons. I'm simply pointing out there are valid reasons TO fire the HC mid-season...I was speculating on outcomes. It would be stupid to "tank for Arch", when he's not guaranteed. Simply pointing out that PERHAPS he MIGHT be, given that time frame. But certainly not a reason to do it, just lagniappe.

We just have differing perspectives, and that's okay...groupthink is not a good thing, IMO. Your biggest concern seems to be the message to our NEXT prospective coach....that he'll be deterred due to a perceived lack of job security. I'm fine with deterring that candidate, for that reason. I want a guy who isn't worried about job security because he's CONFIDENT that he is GOING TO WIN, and winning is the best job security in the world. By all means....deter those candidates focused on job security! Give me the hungry, unknown, confident assistant/coordinator that is just itching for HIS SHOT to show what he's capable of. I can support THAT guy if it gets us out from under the current guy, and the 2nd thing can't happen fast enough IMO. Already 1/2 a season too late, IMO!

Regardless, we both want the same thing, just suggesting different ways to do it. I don't care how it happens, only that it DOES! Can't root for a team without any meaningful hope that we're moving forward...

He’s telling you that Gayle isn’t making the calls on anything except what color to paint the break room and what material the office drapes should be. They won’t ever get a dollar from me again, but that’s just me. You do you

Sorry, but this is one of the most clueless, misogynistic things I have read on this forum regarding this topic. Guess I should get used to this sort of rhetoric. Crazy how all of a sudden, during this particular time period, Gayle Benson out of nowhere has a target on her back.

Guess she should spend more time on the sideline during the fourth quarter looking on nervously and be in the media complaining about officials or issuing ultimatums to the coaching staff on radio shows so you guys can finally feel like she cares.

I can assure you, Gayle Benson does a lot more than “pick out drapes.” Unreal.

Patience is virtue
And it sounds as though the patience with Allen has run out, and the patience with Loomis is getting there. “You are what your record says you are “ makes more sense than “Look beyond the results.” Why? The results are the results, and the results are terrible. That’s really not debatable.

He could be the Bronny James of the NFL. But so far he has done far more than 2pts a game in college.

It's Loomis' masterplan to be in a position to draft Arch Manning in 2027!!
