Nick Underhill: Saints Might Not Move on from DA (4 Viewers)

Of course they will not move on. I thought this was pretty common knowledge. It's very obvious that it's just not how Loomis does stuff with his buddies. He is not firing DA
Nick is starting to tell you the entire story. “They are looking for a reason to bring him back” “there’s not a comp in the NFL that’s like this” talking about front office and owner. He’s telling you that Gayle isn’t making the calls on anything except what color to paint the break room and what material the office drapes should be. They won’t ever get a dollar from me again, but that’s just me. You do you

Firing a head coach mid season really hurts a team more then anything.

  • It shows lack of professionalism in the front office as well as lack of logical emotional control
  • The former bullet discourages other coaches from taking the job, knowing they could get canned mid-season, increasing the likelihood of getting a lesser, less capable, desperate for a promotion coach since coveted coaches, and up and coming coaches will have offers from more stable front offices
  • A new coach mid season isn't going to suddenly turn your team into a playoff contender, making the playoffs. The logical thing to do is stick with em, get a great, very valuable draft pick that will help entice high profile would-be-head-coaches to take the job after releasing the original head coach when the season is over.
Normally, I'd agree with you. He should have been fired after Year 2. But it's become apparent in the middle of Year 3 that was a mistake. So here's a list of reasons why it would be a positive move, rather than a negative:

  • in an emergency situation, step #1 is ALWAYS "stop the bleeding" ASAP; Saints need to stop the bleeding, or at least MAKE THE ATTEMPT
  • it's pretty obvious the players aren't giving their best effort. firing the HC mid-season sends a message that things are going to be different. for those who WANT to be here, it's a message of encouragement.
  • for those who are "coasting" through the season, they're being served notice that their game film will be auditioned by a NEW (to be determined) staff. they'll be playing for their jobs. I expect the team will play better because anyone "going through the motions" won't want a new regime making decisions based off less-than full effort
  • can't speak for others, but I'm under no delusions of turning things around and competing for NFCS division title this season. my eyes are on the 2025 season, and getting the right coach and players to play from that point forward.
As to the 4th bullet point, I'd even CONSIDER eating as many bloated "dead money" contracts as I could in 2025, with the understanding we would be terrible in 2025; but with hope for 2026 and beyond. if we're bad enough in 2025, I think Arch Manning will be within reach for our 2026 draft position. If that's the direction we're going, I'd add one more year to a new coaches contract so that he has THREE YEARS of HIS REGIME and HIS PLAYERS, not including the "dead year" of all the purges. For me, this scenario is preferred over retaining DA ad nauseum, because THIS scenario has hope in my eyes. It's no guarantee of future success, but it's only the 2nd-worst scenario I can envision. Retaining DA is the doomsday scenario, IMO.

So that's my list of reasons why it could be a GOOD thing to fire the HC mid-season. We missed the end-of-season window, so mid-season is the next best thing. and I DO think it's gotten critical.

A mid season HC firing shows fans that the organization is making moves to try to improve the team - not keep doing what they’re doing. A new coach probably won’t turn the team into a playoff contender but it would at least give the fans hope the team might be remotely competitive week to week. Watching this current zombie Saints team is about as fun as a surprise rectal exam. The players clearly don’t care so why should we?

Now for the 800 lb in the room…..this team’s biggest problem isn’t Dennis Allen….it’s Mickey Loomis specifically Loomis’ ego. Given his status as untouchable nothing will change until he retires….,we have returned to Mecom level mismanagement and have years of more of the same of this to look forward to…..

Which is why we need to tank. The Rams will give up their next four drafts to get Arch.

I really don't understand this notion that there is some guarantee that Arch will be so highly coveted.....He's just started his college career and last game I saw, he was benched.....I mean, because he's a Manning? Ridiculous.....

Jim Mora got a lot of grief for quitting on the team. I always felt like he did the right thing. Don't you wish Dennis Allen had the same convictions.

I get what Loomis is doing right now: he is trying to right the ship in the public eye. No executive is going to admit that their business/organization/team is failing. They will always try to pump what they have. Loomis is no dummy with regards to business. He knows that if Dennis Allen doesn’t win and is retained, not only will it look bad but sales will suffer and that’s when things go bad. Companies only listen to two things: money and turnover. Money is the driving force for this one. He know that if DA comes back, ticket sales will plummet which in turn means that concession sales will plummet.

He is attempting to stay positive in the face of constant negativity. Look, my view of Loomis is fading as I believe that Drew Brees and Sean Payton were the catalysts for the Saints success during that time. Loomis was the beneficiary of those two. I’ve stated before that he is a hell of an accountant but one for talent? Eh….

I just cannot believe that the Saints will retain Dennis Allen for the 2025 season. If the Saints are one thing, it is meticulous. They take time and are calculated in their moves. The team is undisciplined and that is squarely on coaching so Loomis is not blind. He’s an executive and many if not all higher up’s get there by being very calculating.

No point it making the coach look worse than he already is so, put on the brave face and tow the line……..

The bolded part……I’m 💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣

Arch has been coveted since he was in grade school🤣

Apparently...and maybe he will turn into a good NFL QB one day but to just assume he will, given the fact that he may not even be the best QB on his team is just a huge nonsensical leap to me.....

I saw it too. That 1st season wasn't the "continuity" DA was hired to preserve. But even CSP threw up a 7-9 stinker every so often, so I understood giving DA a 2nd bite at the apple, even if i disagreed with it. But I was honestly shocked he was retained for a 3rd season, and at this point, everything I'm hearing from the GM has me slackjawed....feeling like I'm in some bizarro world of a Twilight Zone episode.

I know what I'm seeing, and I know what I'm hearing, and the disconnect is so obvious to me. It's like Baghdad Bob proclaiming that the Iraqi forces have repelled the invasion of the infidels, even though you can feel the rumble of American tanks rolling through the city while he's saying it?! I feel like I'm being lied to purposefully....gaslighted..but can't understand WHY? Keep doing what you're doing, and keep saying what you're saying....but there is NO WAY I'm going to be convinced that what I'm seeing is okay?! It's not, and honestly, MLs continued insistence that I'm not seeing what I know I saw is making me question HIS sanity?!!!!
The big difference between a Payton 7-9 and DA 7-9, I'd that with a little touchip and some improvements in certain areas, the Saints would be be a playoff contender.

7-9 or 8-9 with DA feels like smoke and mirrors, and that's the best we are going to see.

Saints will retain Loomis, Loomis will retain Allen

I saw Arch play a few games, the UT offense looks different in a better way with him there. Defenses have to watch out for his running ability. He is able to stretch defenses with his accurate deep passing abilities.

Ewers on the other hand is immobile, and is only effective in short to medium passes. Defenses don't have to play the whole field with him.
