I mean, humans have always been tribal and that fact has been passed along the generations because it is an evolutionary advantage. Forming groups and sticking with that group is how you survive in the state of nature. If we were not tribal, we would have all died out long ago. And that didn't change just because we entered into society with a social contract. In fact, it may be even more important to get people to follow the rules of the social contract.

The reason the world is in the state it is in is because people are dumb and self-interested. They lack the ability to act with rational self-interest and as a result have turned the world to sheet.

Anyway, poor white people vote Republican because they are uneducated and poor black people vote Democrat because they are uneducated. The idea that either of those parties cares about the people who vote for them is laughable.

This idea that tribalism is the problem is an invention of the 21st century. It has no basis in reality. People are sheetty and dumb regardless of whether or not they have joined one tribe or another. We are all self-interested animals. What has made things worse is a lack of emphasis on education, rationality and intelligence and the emphasis on faith and feelings.

I never said it's a new phenomenon, but with the internet, the tribes are give a voice they didn't have before. We don't get the facts anymore, we get twisted interpretations of the news from teammembers. That wasn't always the case. 30 years ago, all you had access to were the professional critics. You didn't have access to the unwashed masses tearing down something they don't like in principle.

And the reason it was important 5000 years ago is that it didn't matter if chief was right or wrong. You rode with him because if you didn't, you died. That's not the case today. We need rational thinking across the board.

Nobody is truly objective. We all, at a minimum, are self-interested and on our own team.

The reason you feel this way is probably because you consume too much mass media and access too much information. Marshall McLuhan was right, the global village crashed in on us because of satellites and the resulting internet. It's information overload that has caused existential angst. It has nothing to do with tribalism. And it's relevant that tribalism has always existed because the fact that this did not happen before shows that tribalism isn't the source of the issue. It's just a new convenient and popular tag line that substitutes a tag line for real thought and substance.
