i agree with the arborista for the most part...

managing the cores and meters gets less annoying as you level them up so there is that

you can equip outfits to your horse at Arthur's chest by his tent...i just keep one of each weather type....Dead eye is activated by clicking the right stick...and at first it auto-paints targets....you eventually unlock the ability to paint manually

some of the random encounters have been awesome though....like a guy trying to get me to suck snake venom out of his leg or some weird swamp people attacking me out of nowhere....

the controls are wonky but they aren't completely borked....it's definitely more of a sim than a action game...

despite those negative things, the world and characters are just so interesting that i keep wanting to play

i have no idea what the online part will be like but my guess is that it will not be all that great

I forgot to mention that one of the more annoying but really small things is that my hat keeps getting lost. I just don't understand the point of that mechanic.

I agree the controls aren't totally borked but I just find it odd that they improved in GTA V and now have returned to GTA IV levels. Also, I don't see why they couldn't more or less use the GTA V control scheme for this game since, although it's not great, it worked fine in GTA V.

But yeah, despite the issues, I just want to keep playing and time just melts away while playing. I lose track of time just doing dumb stuff like fishing and some of the little side quests are fun. I thought the escaped circus animals quest was particularly interesting and well done.

As far as the online stuff, I suspect it won't be all that great either but you never know. IIRC, the online stuff in GTA IV was pretty meh, but the stuff they did in GTA Online is great. RDR online was meh and only interesting for a few days but if they can evolve it the way they did with GTA, it could be interesting for at least a few weeks. And, I think they had to invest a lot of time any money into the multiplayer in order to make money on selling sheet in game. They made a 100 hour game with no micro transactions in game. That type of time investment is going to have to bring in more money than just the cost of the single player game. The only way to generate more revenue is with a robust multiplayer that makes you want to spend money. I have no idea how you do that or what could make it interesting, but Rockstar usually figures it out.

In your tent you can send 3 outfits to be available on the horse. R3 is dead eye... which was the same in the first one and the first first one.

heh ^already answered.

Thanks. I don't recall any of the controls from the first RDR. I guess I just never spent enough time looking at the options for clothes in my tent. Still, I think it should be a little more streamlined and obvious.

Which reminds me about the fast travel in this game. I think it's an odd choice to hide it and to make it so that you can only use it one way. I get that they want you to see the world and stumble on stuff and I probably wouldn't use it much. But it would be nice to be able to say fast travel to the fence to sell some stuff and then fast travel back to camp. That's just a chore you have to do to make money and if you forget something, like a certain item I needed to use to craft, you can fast travel there, but you have to ride all the way back.

The controls are a little more complex because they added some systems to the game that didn't exist in GTA. The only complaint I had about GTA 4 was the driving was not tight at all, other than that, it wasn't as bad as you are making it out to be.

What? When I was digging through my clothes options, I imagined you would have picked out your perfect outfit and you'd have spent most of your time up to that point making sure your Vest matched your pants in the sun set.

I believe I read somewhere that you need to upgrade Dutch's tent first in order to get the Fast Travel to the camp.... but I am not that far into it to confirm.

That is what I was talking about with GTA 4. That and I think the auto-aiming system was kind of borked in GTA 4. They fixed it for GTA 5. But my main complaint with the controls in this game are the horse riding. First, I think it's a little jerky which causes some out of the blue crashes. Second, I find it odd that I have to tap on a button multiple times to get my horse to slow down. Third, like I said, a horse is a sentient being, it should be able to avoid some obstacles on it's own. It should never run face first into a tree when you make a blind turn.

I mean, they won't let me play as a girl and they won't let me wear women's clothes so what's the point?

I just hope I can make myself hot in RDR Online. If the do, I will spend all my time matching my dress to my stockings in the sunset and sunrise.

that's how you unlock it but it only works for traveling from camp to somewhere...you can't fast travel back to camp as far as i can tell

you actually unlock better horse controls as you bond....there is a drift with square and you can stop by holding R1

You need to upgrade Dutch's tent to fast travel at all. I did the upgrade, but I haven't used it yet. But, my understanding is that you can use it to fast travel from the camp to certain locations that you have been to, but you can't fast travel back.

can you find a stage coach and pay to return? seems like a dumb choice as every game with fast travel has made this complaint at some point.

Yeah, I have bonded to the point of having drift control and I know about holding R1. I just don't get why they had to add another button to the process. I now do it as a matter of habit but it's just another tiny annoyance. Individually they tiny annoyances are barely worth mentioning but when you add them all up, it stops this from beating out GoW for the GOTY.

you can ride in a stagecoach but i don't know if you can take it camp....

fast travel is fine for some games but i don't really mind not having it here

I haven't seen any stage coaches to rent, but I may not have looked hard enough. I know you can buy train tickets but I didn't notice anything for stage coaches.
