Saints Need an Offensive Weapon (1 Viewer)

I don't know what you're looking for. His contact balance is next level. He's extremely powerful. I've seen some DL hit him and fall straight down from how much power he packs. He's hit 22 mph in game this season. The guy is legit.

I guess I think if he was Marshall Faulk, Barry Sanders, LT, or AD, he would be long gone by #10.

Those guys were picked in a different era when backs were valued more draft-wise. A great back can last a lot lower in today’s era.

That being said, though I get your side of the argument, I do maintain that Jeanty could be a good pick, but it would need to occur only in the event his final scouting grade is that of a player-type you mentioned above.

Don’t not pick him just because he’s a running back.

I doubt Detroit is regretting taking Gibbs at 12.

Or Atlanta taking Bijan at 7 when they had Allgeier.

We've been drafting offensive lineman for years, it's time for a playmaker

I agree and I don't think it should be a WR. We're way to weak in the middle of the field which is why I either want Jeanty or Tyler Warren. Tetairoa McMillan would also serve to some degree but is always highly reliant on QB which is inconsistent for us, while Tyler Warren would at least help block in run plays and runs with the ball hard like Taysom Hill after the catch which is a massive bonus for our short game, long game and red zone, and Jeanty is self explanatory.

I absolutely agree this is 3+ year turnaround. Which makes even less sense to select a RB that high.
Should tell that to Payton. He came in and took a RB as high as he possibly could. He understood you need playmakers and you can't pass on talent when your team has so little of it.

Running backs are producing at a high level well into their second contract. CMC led SF to a NFC Championship game 8 years after being drafted. Barkley came just shy of the single season rushing record 7 years after being drafted. Derrick Henry is still bulldozing people after 9 years. That's a long time to be able to rely on your running game while the QB situation gets sorted.

There's some decent guards in FA. Instead of spending money on guys like Juwan Johnson we need to sign a proven guard. Then draft depth and Ruiz's eventual replacement in the mid rounds.

Our bargain signing of Lucas Patrick and then not adding any depth was probably the biggest Achilles heal of the team this year minus Denis Allen.

This. I think you explained you better then I have, but I keep stressing the same point. We absolutely can't pass on Jeanty if he's there, unless someone is going to dump a mountain of picks on us.

Reggie Bush is a great example of a RB picked high (back when that was the norm) and did NOT live up to expectations.

Now it didn't matter because SP landed a future HOF QB in Drew Brees.

I think we need a Center also. Someone ideally who can play Guard but also slide inside if McCoy gets hurt or leaves for a bigger contract. Jake Majors would fit the bill.

You're right. He did not live up to expectations. I think I was his biggest critic. But he still served a massive purpose. He was an amazing decoy which helped take pressure off of Brees while he continued to get use to his reconstructed shoulder and create a consistent environment that allowed Brees to develop confidence. It's just odd because it was done in an unusual way, but if defenses blitzed, Bush was there for the dump off to make them pay and his skill set was still incredibly dangerous once he got the ball in space.

You don't land that kind of talent in mid-late rounds even at RB, and if you do, congratulations you found a Unicorn.

And to be fair to Bush, as soon as he switched to offensive zone run blocking scheme in Miami, he started looking more like his USC self. So we have to ask ourselves, how much of his disappointment here in NO was the coaching scheme fault. Mark Ingram was garbage in our blocking scheme as well until we switched to a zone blocking scheme in 2013. Our blocking scheme may be way Bush didn't have success in running plays but was profoundly dangerous on dump off passes, screens and splitting out wide.

Derek Henry, Alvin Kamara, Breece Hall, Kyren Williams, Jonathan Taylor, and Aaron Jones. All good to great current NFL RBs taken after the first round much. There sure seem to be a lot of unicorns out there and there are many more if we look at former NFL RBs. The unicorns are the RBs that are worth a top 10 pick.

If you think Jeanty is one of those unicorns, fine take him in the top 10. I don't think he is, but I could be wrong.

Again, this arguement is invalid. Kyren Williams and Aaron Jones were selected around the same time as Tom Brady and Brock Purdy. Derek Henry, Breece Hall and Jonathan Taylor were all selected around the same time as Lamarr Jackson, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Jalen Hurts.

You're not going to wait till the 2nd+ round in hopes for franchise QB's, just because its happened before. Sean Payton proved this. He took a QB that was slated for the 2nd/3rd round 10th overall. He took Bush 2nd overall. Lions took Gibbs 12th overall.

You take what you think is great that's there for the taking.

The argument is not invalid. You're just moving the goalposts now. 2 of the currently best RBs in the NFL, Henry and Taylor, were taken after the first and there are many good to great starting RB in the NFL that were taken after the first.

If the team really think Jeanty is the BPA at 10, fine take him. But I personally don't think he will be.
